Project Overview

This project aims to positively change the perceptions of women and girls’ roles in public life and ability to lead and contribute to developmental efforts and societal change. Working with high school boys and girls in private and public schools in rural areas, their teachers, local municipal leaders, and their communities, LADE seeks to affect local perceptions of and attitudes towards girls’ leadership and participation in local, public life . This project is part of LADE’s broader gender strategy, which works towards greater participation of women and girls in decision-making and political life, thus improving the rights and status of women and girls in Lebanon.

 

Job Purpose

To develop a curriculum designated for teachers as well as students, on gender norms and stereotypes, that includes interactive exercises and games, this curriculum will be available to schools across the country.

This curriculum seeks to achieve two specific objectives:

  • High school-aged girls’ and boys’ perceptions of and attitudes towards female participation is altered, becoming more favourable to women and girls’ roles in public life and traditionally male-dominated spheres.
  • Local leaders and communities become more open to and accepting of women and girls’ participation in and leadership of communal and municipal initiatives.

 

Main Tasks

- To perform related desk and literature reviews about the subject.

- To take by all the necessary research methods the consultant find suitable to gather all the required information.

- To conduct a series of interviews with at  least 2 public and 2 private schools principles, social instructors, etc. to gauge on cases related to gender misperceptions and how “genderised” are our curriculums, gathering a set of recommendations from them. 

- To perform background research on women in leadership and success stories to be included in the curriculum. 

- To write and develop the curriculum to be used by teachers as a reference, including a special material to be distributed among students in schools.

- To work with LADE’s project manager on developing the chapters and examples that will be incorporated in the curriculum, taking into consideration all the remarks and adjusments required by LADE 

-  To conduct a two day training on “how to use the curriculum” for teachers and LADE trainers 

 

 Deliverables

As part of his/her work the successful candidate is expected to submit  the following deliverables:

- An outline of the curriculum that he/she will develop 

- A comprehensive and user-friendly curriculum for teachers and students

- A training agenda and material for the TOT

Note: all the material should be written and communicated in Arabic.

 

Education and Experience

-     A university degree in education, political science, gender-studies, social sciences or any related field is required
-    Previous experience with NGOs and international organisations, 
-    Experience in working with students and/or teachers, or any form of educational setting. Prior experience in curriculum development is an an asset.
-    Understanding of national issues, in particular strong background & expertise in relation to secondary students and education, gender, and government institutions, and public schools.
-    Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically.
-    Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
-    Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, good written and spoken English. French is an asset
-    At least 5 years of experience in gender and education related issues.
-    Commitment to and understanding  of LADE’s aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches.
