Background

USAID’s “Quality Instruction towards Access and Basic Education Improvement” (QITABI 2) is a five-year program seeking to improve learning outcomes for all students in public primary schools in Lebanon. Its activity targets an estimated 200,000 girls and boys, including those who are registered in second shifts of public schools.
World Learning has an immediate consultancy for the USAID-funded Quality Instruction Towards Access and Basic Education Improvement (QITABI 2) in Lebanon.

Scope and Responsibilities

The consultant will work with Project Management and technical team as necessary. He/ She will be required to provide written translation including editing and proof reading as per the below preference:
i) Standard Documents Translation English – Arabic and/or Vice Versa
ii) Technical Documents Translation English – Arabic and/or Vice Versa

The Consultant shall perform the Services as follows
• Efficiently translate materials from English to Arabic and/or Arabic to English,
• Insure confidentiality of the translated materials. Any project document is treated in strict confidence and cannot be shared with any individual or organization in any form electronic or printed. In breach of confidence penalty could be levied;
• The material to be translated will mainly be:
o Standard Documents: Program related content, i.e. educational presentations and concept papers, training materials, flyers, brochures, etc.
o Technical Documents: Government decisions, laws and regulations, elections, civil society, legal documents, website content, etc.
o Or any other urgent translation task requested by World Learning

The standard time frame for the translation delivery shall be as follows (from the date of submission by World Learning):

Translation Volume (Page) Time Frame (To be discussed & finalized)
1-20 2 days
21-50 3 - 5 days
51-100 6 - 8 days
101 and above 10 days or more pending number of pages

Required Qualifications

• Post-graduate qualification in translation, applied linguistics or related field
• More than 10 years of experience in Translation and similar tasks
• Technical knowledge or background in the field of Education is mandatory
• Experience in doing translation for International Organizations and Education sector is an asset
• Ability to synthesize complex documents into key messages
• Excellent report writing skills and proof-reading in English and/or Arabic
• Good analytical and communication skills: ability to analyze and synthesize relevant information to the benefit of the organization
• Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility required to work under pressure and to meet short deadlines
• Sensitivity to the cultural context
• Good IT skills, experience in computer-assisted translation is an asset
