  1. Background Information

Background on WPA:

The Women’s Programs Association (WPA) is a non-governmental non-profit organization registered in the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities in 2008 under license number 344.

WPA targets Palestinian refugee women and youth in eight camps throughout Lebanon with a wide range of activities to build their capacity, skills, knowledge and assets to develop themselves and their families and widen their opportunity for employment and decent life.

WPA’s activities include skills training, support education to school drop-out children, adult literacy and numeracy and life skills, pre-school education, lending programs for micro-businesses and consumer loans, psycho-social support through listening centers, COVID-19 prevention activities, awareness raising, recreational activities in addition to production units in food catering.

Background on UNRWA:

UNRWA is mandated to provide assistance and protection to some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief, and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance.

Background on the Project:

Building on a pilot project in Beddawi (North) and Burj Barajneh (Beirut), at least eight women from the women’s committee in Ein El Helweh (Saida area) and eight young men from Beddawi and Naher el Bared (North Lebanon) will learn the techniques of video-making over three months.

The project will include two months of training with two sessions per week, each session lasting 2 hours, followed by one month of coaching (1 session per week, lasting  3 hours) where the trainer follows up with the participants and provides feedback on the content they produce.

In order to ensure the sustainability of the pilot project, the women from North and Beirut who have been previously trained on video making, will be engaged in another month of coaching as a follow-up to the previous project. During the coaching period, the women will re-engage with the trainer to enforce practicing of existing techniques. It involves feedback on previous projects, discussing new projects and reflecting challenges and ways to overcome them.

The project will provide the participants with the skills to produce video reports on local issues, stories, service providers and local initiatives in their communities, as well as awareness videos on GBV and women’s rights and promoting male and female role models for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Having acquired the relevant skills, the groups will then use a previously established facebook page to upload and share their productions. Based on the Covid-19 situation an event might be organized where the best videos will be screened. Logistics, including provision of the venue, will be coordinated by WPA.
