Visualizing Palestine (VP) is a collective that employs research, data, social sciences, technology, design and urban studies to produce creative visuals to describe a factual rights-based narrative of Palestinian and Israeli issue for social justice. The multidisciplinary team is based in Ramallah, Amman and Beirut.
While VP’s mandate is creating visuals for social justice on Palestine, there will be commercial projects intended to expand the possibilities and the challenges in VP’s technical abilities that will directly feed back into Visualizing Palestine’s work. This will be part of an entity branded as Visualizing Impact (VI). All mention of VP below includes VI by default.
VP is looking to hire a Director of Operations, full time, to lead and advance a visual production process from ideation to publication and dissemination. The role entails advancing and communicating a VP process that becomes part of its core competence and is transferable to all team members and potentially to other groups.
This role will take up 70% of your time. The remaining 30% will be dedicated to revenue generation.
Activities
Process-Project lead (70%) – the following is not exhaustive.
Client
Client servicing, this involves creating and maintaining a strong working rapport with the client and acting as a liaison between the client and other VP staff.
Administrative liaison, this involves following up on contractual and financial issues.
Production
Support for managing schedule of VP projects and allocation of resources related to implementing VP workplan.
Tracking progress of project implementation and communicating progress to VP management and relevant staff.
Aggregating and reporting on VP team feedback relating to research and design.
Overseeing and contributing to archiving and documentation of VP content and process, as well as contributing to continuous improvement of VP processes.
Overseeing additional production tasks such as translation.
Communications
Contributing to website content related to process visualization and team and partners thanks and listing.
Managing publishing process including content generation such as emailers, articles and social media.
Financial sustainability
Tracking project cost and continuously assessing and evaluating VP’s pricing sheet.
Continuously evaluating and refining on financial optimization strategy while maintaining quality.
VP team
Managing and nurturing volunteer network of researchers, designers and communication people through growing a database, establishing contact, and following up on deliverables.
Identifying gaps in VP skillset and recruiting volunteers, freelancers or partners to fill those roles, in agreement with VP management.
Writing job descriptions for missing roles in team.
Identifying potential team members to join VP.
Revenue Support role (30%)
Leading grant proposal writing to guarantee the awarding of at least two grants within the period of six months.
Continuously contributing to the development of VP's core strategy document based on developments and evolving process and strategies.
Assist with other monetization strategies such as online sales and crowd-sourced funding strategies.
