Terre des hommes - Lausanne is seeking a qualified Social Educator in North Bekaa.

Duration: 4 months with possibility of renewal based on performance and budget approval.

Reporting directly to: Child Protection Social Education Team Leader.

Job Purpose / Main Functions:

  • The Social Educator is responsible for conducting outreach through different approaches (field visits, home based visits, phone-based visits, community-based approach, referrals, networking)
  • The Social Educator/Outreach Team is responsible for daily psychosocial and psychoeducational activities for children, raising awareness activities, recreational activities, using arts and crafts, movement, games and sport activities for children. The Social Educators will be organizing community events, social behavioral change initiatives in cooperation with the staff of Social Development Centers (SDCs) and based on coordination and agreement with Ministry of Social Affairs.
  • The Social Educator is responsible for referrals to SDC’s staff and follow up with cases.
  • The Social Educator/Outreach Team is responsible for effective community engagement, meaningful participation and accountability mechanism.
  • He/she will be working in pair with the social workers of SDCs on identifying high risk cases and accordingly referring to SDC’s case workers, as well as children and families who can benefit from other services provided by SDC and protection partner ABAAD The Social Educator will support the social workers of SDCs in regular reporting of the child protection cases to MoSA.
  • A significant component of the Social Educator’s role is to work with the PSS Senior Technical Advisor and CP Senior Technical Advisor in order to ensure that child protection is mainstreamed through the activities, the Tdh’s tools and practices are introduced to social workers of the SDCs, implemented accordingly and the pair work on child protection activities is efficient for the SDC’s staff contributing to the development of their capacities.
  • Moreover, the Social Educator will update and maintain relevant reporting requirements to Project Manager: Activity Info, weekly sitreps, protection monitoring, referrals, trends and patterns as well as activity evaluation sheet.

Duties & Responsibilities / Context  (Tasks) :

  • Organize and conduct daily outreach activities, referrals, follow ups, ensure community engagement and escort children to SDCs to attend activities;
  • Ensure the accountability mechanism, feedback mechanism and promote active participation
  • Organize psychosocial, psychoeducational activities for children, parents and intergenerational activities,
  • Accompany children and families to SDC to facilitate access to service provisions
  • Identify and refer cases of children to the SDC’s case management team
  • Identify and refer cases of caregivers to Abaad case management team and SDC’s services in general
  • Oversee the Safe Spaces Learning Spaces, to ensure smooth running and quality implementation of activities
  • Document Trends/patterns child protection concerns on a weekly basis
  • Maintain and update: PSS database, activity sheets, activity evaluation forms, activity info, monthly beneficiary reporting, trend forms, Sitrep on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Identify and implement PSS activities in both SDCs and Mobile Units
  • Maintain contact with families of children-disseminate information, materials and NFI’s as and when required
  • Organize and provide raising awareness activities, information sessions with both children and parents, focusing on child protection key messages,
  • Organize and provide social behavioral change initiatives, intergenerational activities in cooperation with SDCs
  • Conduct pre/post questionnaires in all locations of intervention-following standardized protocols accordingly
  • Oversee and support team of community engagement through their direct implementation in mobile and center-based activities
  • Build the capacity of SDC’s staff through pair work, join planning and design of activities, sharing of tools and practices and learning exercises
  • Participate in coordination meeting the team of the project, SDCs’ staff but also with the field staff of Consortium partners.

  • Report any breach observed in the framework of this policy during his/her professional activities both as regards the proven or suspected offence and a preventive breach
  • Participate actively in weekly and monthly coordination meeting with the line managers

Job requirements:

Academic Background:  Technical diploma or degree in education, youth work, animation, social work  or related degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in conducting psychosocial activities for children and parents
  • Proven experience working in challenging situation.
  • Experience in working with children (mandatory).
  • Experience in working for an NGO/ humanitarian organization preferable
  • Experience in recreational activities
  • Experience in working with vulnerable groups
  • Experience in Child Protection
