About Silat Wassel:

An independent youth-driven media platform. The platform aims to empower and support the new generation of journalists, particularly journalism and media students in southern Lebanon. It provides resources and training that keep pace with innovations in journalism while adhering to professional standards and ethics. The platform produces reports and investigative journalism pieces that address issues in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon, with the goal of enhancing local media coverage and amplifying youth perspectives and concerns across the Arab world.

 

As part of its initiative to strengthen digital resilience among journalists in south Lebanon, Silat Wassel is organizing a series of five online workshops on digital safety and security. These workshops will provide practical training on essential cybersecurity skills, equipping participants with the tools to protect their digital presence, safeguard sensitive data, and mitigate online threats effectively.

To achieve this, Silat Wassel is seeking experienced Digital Safety and Security Trainers to conduct these workshops between April and June 2025.

 

The five online workshops will focus on the following key areas:

Fundamentals of Digital Safety and Privacy

Understanding online risks and vulnerabilities

Securing personal and professional digital assets

Best practices for password management and multi-factor authentication

Protecting Communication and Sensitive Data

Encryption tools and secure communication methods

Safe file-sharing techniques

Data protection strategies for journalists and activists

Identifying and Responding to Cyber Threats

Recognizing phishing, malware, and social engineering attacks

Incident response planning and mitigation techniques

Secure browsing and threat monitoring tools

Digital Security for Investigative Journalists

Protecting sources and confidential information

Secure research methods and anonymity tools

Handling online harassment and digital threats

Advanced Cybersecurity Tools and Strategies

Using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Tor for anonymity

Securing mobile devices and applications

Implementing two-factor authentication and password managers effectively

Trainer Responsibilities:

Design and deliver engaging training sessions tailored to the needs of journalists.

Provide interactive demonstrations and hands-on exercises to enhance participants' understanding.

Develop customized training materials, including presentations, guides, and toolkits.

Offer practical solutions and best practices to improve digital safety and security.

Support participants with Q&A sessions and follow-up resources for continued learning.

Prepare pre- and post-training assessment tests to measure participants’ progress,

Submit a training report summarising the training outcomes and pre- and post-training test results, reflecting the trainees’ learning progress
 

Trainer Qualifications

Proven experience in digital security, cybersecurity, or online safety training.

Strong knowledge of privacy tools, encryption methods, and cyber threat mitigation.

Experience working with journalists, civil society organizations, or human rights defenders.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead interactive online training sessions.

Familiarity with open-source security tools and digital protection strategies is a plus.
