Job Summary

The Psychiatrist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with mental health disorders. Their responsibilities will include conducting psychiatric evaluations, prescribing medications, and developing personalized treatment plans. The psychiatrist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care and works to improve the emotional and psychological well-being of individuals.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health issues.
  • Utilize standardized assessment tools, interviews, and observations to gather relevant information.
  • Review medical histories and execute mental health assessments to determine appropriate treatment options.
  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to meet the individual needs and goals.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications to manage symptoms of mental health conditions in line with MoPH’s guidelines.
  • Provide evidence-based psychotherapy and counseling services using various therapeutic modalities (CBT, IPT, TFCBT, EMDR etc.).
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on response to therapy and medications.
  • Collaborate with beneficiaries to establish therapeutic goals and monitor progress throughout the treatment process.
  • Offer crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing psychological distress or emergencies.
  • Proficiency in psychiatric assessment and usage of ICD-10/ICD-11 terminology.
  • Assess for imminent suicide risk and initiate safety planning.
  • Expertise in pharmacology and willingness to base prescriptions on the recommended MOPH list of psychotropic and neurological medications.
  • Monitor treatment response and manage severe side effects.

 

Referrals and Coordination

  • Provide referrals for patients requiring additional services, such as inpatient care or specialized therapy.
  • Provide emotional support, guidance, and practical coping strategies to help individuals manage crises effectively.
  • Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and medication management.
  • Coordinate regularly with the CM program coordinator to discuss beneficiaries' progress, treatment options, and interventions.
  • Participate in coordination and technical meetings.
  • Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation exercises to identify challenges and gaps and improve the quality of services.
  • Be available to respond to emergency cases.
  • Request, when needed, laboratory, imaging, or other special diagnostic tests, and follow up on the results.

Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and confidential beneficiaries’ records, reporting and documentation tool, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with ethical standards;
  • Prepare weekly and monthly plans and send them to the CM program coordinator.

 

General Duties

  • Understands and adheres to the Shift Code of Conduct;
  • Understands the roles of the components of Shift;
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times;
  • Represents Shift in a professional manner at all times;
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers;
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the Organization.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical degree required (MD) and Psychiatry with Psychiatry degree registered at the Lebanese Psychiatric Society.
  • Minimum of 2-years of clinical experience.
  • MoPH permit (license of practice) is a must;
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric medications, therapies, and treatment protocols;
  • Experience in conducting psychiatric assessments, diagnosing mental health disorders, and providing psychotherapy;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with diverse populations;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel).
  • Fluency in Arabic and English, French is a plus.

Conditions

  • Depending on the referrals and on the schedule, the psychiatrist will cover 35 days all over the year for 250$ per working day.
  • Willingness to work in Tripoli and in Wadi Khaled (Akkar).
