Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments, and companies deal with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and Brussels, Belgium, with field offices in 35 countries, SFCG designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviors.

Overview of Position:

The Field Officer will take the lead in organising networking meetings bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, conducting dialogue sessions on pressing issues on the local level, in addition to supporting research and local-level CSO sub-grant initiatives. More specifically, the Field Officer will be responsible of the day-to-day operations in the areas of implementation with the guidance of the Project Manager, ensuring that activities run smoothly and achieve high-quality results. These activities are part of the implementation of a 7-month project aiming to empower civil society actors to lead peacebuilding and conflict transformation, and working on strengthening their role in meeting local needs in a comprehensive method and constructive approach.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Specific roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Participate and provide support on research that will include an Area Assessment and Mapping of CSO Stakeholders in the selected area. The research will help to develop a common vision for the project team, identify key partners, and inform an action plan for the implementation of the project at the local level.
  • Effective participation in the design and implementation of eight-day training workshops in early December 2019, to strengthen the capacity of the CSOs in conflict transformation, project and organisational management, and other topics based on identified needs of partner CSOs.
  • Plan and organise three local dialogue sessions in the target area covered by the Field Officer, bringing together our project partners, community members, and local influencers.
  • Support to all project activities in the relative area of operation including design, implementation, reporting, evaluation and financial compliance as requested and required by the project partners.
  • Create and maintain positive and professional relationships with relevant stakeholders in the area of operation, including with partners, appropriate community leaders, civil society actors, and marginalised groups.
  • Supervision of a Field Officer Assistant, ensuring that he or she completes their tasks in a timely manner that meets the required quality standards.
  • Maintain regular written and oral reporting with Search’s project team in Search’s Beirut office.
  • Update the team about relevant changes in context and the dynamics on the ground.
  • Deliver a monthly field officer journal to report on implementation progress, context developments, and planning for the subsequent reporting period.
