We are searching for…

A consultant to document a case study for “Peace Pioneers Phase II” a project funded by the Swiss Embassy in Beirut, with the overall goal to stimulate engagement between CSO and private sector partners for sustainable long-term peace by building the knowledge base for CSOs and Private Sector Actors on Peacebuilding and enhance CSO and Private Sector capacity to develop, implement, and sustain partnerships.

Your contribution

Is to document at least one case on a CSO/private sector partnership that was successful in creating conflict transformation outcomes as a result of both phases of Peace Pioneers. The case study will aim to highlight the overall process of forming this partnership including initiating negotiations, creating relationships, building partnerships, and effectively implementing joint projects. This “pilot partnership” will provide an example of positive engagement to inspire other companies to replicate this success or develop new partnerships. Lastly, the case study will seek to generate a shared method - between CSOs and the private sector to measure impact, in line with our aim to enable each side to recognize the mutual benefit of the partnership for their needs.

Audience

The primary audience of the case study will be Search, their partners and the Swiss Embassy who will use the findings to inform and strengthen their current and future programs. Recommendations should emerge from the study to inform the project and project activities.  The secondary audience will be the peacebuilding community and the private sector at large.

Methodology

Approach

Search approach to research is grounded in the guiding principles of our work: participatory, culturally sensitive, committed to building capacity, affirming and positive while honest and productively critical, and valuing knowledge and approaches from within the context.

The scope of Case Study:

The Consultant will investigate two principal target groups: peacebuilding organizations and members of the private sector. The selected sample size should be adequate and representative of the target groups. In addition, the case study should employ both quantitative and qualitative participatory methods.

Phasing

The case study is expected to be implemented over three phases as suggested below. The consultant is, however, encouraged to provide his own feedback but any changes to the methodology and the phasing of the project need to be discussed and approved by Search.

Phase I: Initial Assessment

This assessment will include literature review and gathering of information, review of secondary data – Review of project documentation, previous studies in the field, and other resources as appropriate. It will also include the preparation of data gathering instruments (questionnaires, discussion frameworks, checklists) for gathering information from a relevant partner organization, Search, participants of training, and other stakeholders.

Phase II: Data Collection (Fieldwork)

The fieldwork will be implemented in accordance with the agreed case study questions and methodology and in compliance with the objectives of the initial assessment and the expectations of the Search. Since most of the partners are not in contract with Search therefore key informant interviews and surveys will remain the major part of the field exercise. This phase encompasses:

Phase III: Analysis and Writing

The information from the preparatory and field phases will be consolidated, processed, analysed, and interpreted in relation to the research questions.
