ROLE PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Case Management Officers (and overall guidance of the Child Protection Coordinator and Program Manager), the Case worker will be responsible for implementing activities related to case management and alternative care, targeting vulnerable children and families including refugees, returnees and children in host communities.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Case Management Officer

Staff directly reporting to this post: None

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

- Identification, assessment, referral (to relevant services) and follow-up of at-risk children and families (Case Management) including confidential documentation.

- Participate in weekly case management and coordination meetings.

- Provide specific support to vulnerable children by providing alternative care Support the identification of out-of school children, children victims of violence, Worst Forms of Child Labor, Unaccompanied and Separated children through regular home visits to the child and the family, developing a work-plan and a safety plan with the child.

- Work closely with other sectors/ partners to ensure capacity of  identification and referral skills.

- Conducting regular visits to communities and Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) to work with facilitators, outreach volunteers and animators on the identification and referral of at risk-children.

- Provide information on existing social services and how to access them.

- Submit reports weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities, case load and related challenged.

- Maintain files, registers, computer databases and records in paper or electronic format.

- Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that work with individual cases is of quality.

- Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, community spaces etc with a particular focus on outreach work and support in identification, referral and case management of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy).

- Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child.

- Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

- In agreement with Child Protection Coordinator and Child Protection Program Manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Degree in Social Work (desirable), or degree social sciences or development

- Experience in working with at-risk children and families,  experience in case management in the emergency response desirable

- Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities

- Experience in project and team management (desirable)

- Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms

- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, and either English or French (desirable)

- Ability to write weekly and monthly reports, develop schedules and collect data

- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies

- Commitment  to  and  understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
