BAB: Bread and Butter-Save the Children

Working in partnership is central to Save the Children’s Theory of Change, and to our mission to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. We believe that through working with organizations with different strengths and perspectives from our own, we will have a greater impact on the lives of children and build a strong independent movement for change.

The Partnership Engagement Cycle

Working in partnership is at the core of Save the Children’s understanding of how change happens. Our ambitions for children will not be secured by us alone. Consequently, it is important that we have a clear understanding of what makes a partnership work and of our own strengths and weaknesses. This is reflected in the following key elements of the partnership process:

  • Focus on the relationship and the clarity of purpose of the partnership
  • Open online system for mapping and partner scoping, where any organization can apply to become a partner
  • Implementation of strategies achieving the expected outputs and outcomes
  • Participatory capacity assessment pre and post partnership
  • Joint Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms and approach to feedback, learning and change
  • Clear ideas or plans for phasing out
  • The availability of useful tools and methods to support the above
