Division Summary
IDG’s International Education Division supports education development around the world by strengthening education policy, management and practice in order to achieve measurable improvement in teaching and learning. From our well-established reputation in education system strengthening, to innovative work in early grade assessment and learning, RTI is improving education quality, relevance and efficiency through implementation of projects funded by USAID, The LEGO Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other donors and clients.
Project Summary
USAID/Lebanon has recently awarded RTI a $97 million USD, five-year Cooperative Agreement to build on nearly a decade of investments in the education system under Quality Instruction Towards Access and Basic Education (QITABI) 1 and 2. The purpose of QITABI 3 is to further strengthen education service government systems to yield student learning improvements across all of Lebanon’s public schools (first and second shifts) and in select low cost private schools that are vulnerable and economically disadvantaged. The activity will target an estimated 350,000 girls and boys in over a thousand of Lebanon’s public schools and vulnerable, economically disadvantaged low-cost private schools and will support the education system’s overall capacity to plan, budget, deliver, monitor, evaluate and institutionalize quality educational services by providing in-depth technical assistance to the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE).
Position Summary
RTI is seeking a French Literacy Consultant for the awarded USAID Quality Instruction Towards Access and Basic Education (QITABI) 3 in Lebanon.
This position will report to the Beirut office Literacy Director and will be located in Beirut, Lebanon to contribute to recommending best practices for teaching and learning French as a second language, and development of material based on the differentiation principles, in grades 1 -9 (Cycles 1, 2 and 3) public schools throughout Lebanon.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Contribute to developing curriculum scope and sequence for core foundational skills based on Lebanon’s national curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans based on a requested template aligned with differentiation plans, in addition to step-by-step scripted instructions for classroom implementation.
- Develop diagnostic, formative and summative assessments.
- Develop teacher weekly and daily pacers for content.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably an M.A in Education, linguistics or related field.
- Experience in content development based on child-centred best practices with a focus on remediation and differentiation.
- Fluency in French and Arabic languages and excellent communication skills in French. Proficiency in English language is a plus.
- Experience in teaching and curriculum design and more specifically the Lebanese curriculum.
- Well experienced in the development of classroom-based assessments: diagnostic, formative and summative.
- Experience in Educational projects preferably with USAID.
- Well-informed about recent initiatives adopted in Lebanon to improve the teaching and learning of the French language as a second language.
- Team player with a flexible attitude.
Duration of the consultancy
Short term consultancy from January 2025 – June 2025.
Total LOE is 75 days for the above-mentioned duration.
