Designer & Quality Control Supervisor

Project Brief:

The Rene Moawad Foundation (RMF) is seeking a Minjara Designer & Quality Control Supervisor under the “Enhancing the Tripoli furniture industry for driving economic growth” project funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with Expertise France.

This project comes as a 24 months extension to the Private Sector Development Programme (PSD-P), particularly the wood processing component, and the work that was previously done by Expertise France between 2017 and 2019 which resulted in the establishment and operation of Minjara both the furniture brand and the platform (as a business support hub for all the carpenters of Tripoli). RMF and its consortium of partners are seeking to further elaborate Minjara to achieve sustainability of both the Minjara entity and management team.

Role:

The Designer & Quality Control Supervisor will:

• Monitor operations to ensure that they meet production standards.
• Guide the production team about the quality control issues to enhance the quality of the product.
• Take a thorough look at the plans and specifications to understand the product requirements.
• Recommend adjustments to the assembly or production process.
• Inspect and ensure all incoming materials to meet quality expectations.
• Report and resolve issues with suppliers regarding the quality of received materials/products.
• Resolve quality-related issues adhering to deadlines.
• Carry out quality assessment measures of all the products ready to be delivered.
• Create internal designs for showcase.
• Help in marketing and sales.
• Accept/ revise and organize external requests on the design level.
• Consult about projects design requirements.
• Consult in technical solutions for each project.
• Investigate appropriate materials and production processes.
• Assist in pricing, contracts, budgets and deadlines.
• Assess schedule and timeframe for each project.
• Create deal with suppliers, involving purchase orders for materials and products.
• Create initial feasibility studies.
• Produce sketches and sample designs.
• Test designs using models, prototypes, and CAD.
• Provide detailed drawings for production.
• Optimize the production methods based on set deadlines.
• Clarify and solve design issues.
• Follow up and provide support to production to improve lead times.
• Present design, costs, changes and budgetary information to the platform manager.
• Identify and implement design improvements (functionality, cost, design for manufacture).
• Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required.

Profile:

• Expertise in designing projects from concept to completion.
• Expertise in materials and custom furniture.
• Expertise in project management.
• Proficient in Autocad, Rhino or other Design programs.
• Knowledge of Office programs or similar.
• Knowledge of woodworking details.
• Knowledge in production standards and quality control.
• Knowledge in project costing and fees.
• Great communication and presentation skills.

Experience:

• At least 2 years of work experience as a designer.
• Experience in furniture design and execution.
• Work experience in a workshop is a plus.
