The Programs Manager reports directly to the Director and is responsible for the development and implementation of all projects under The Nawaya Network's entrepreneurship program, with the following responsibilities:

Program Strategic Planning:

  • Leads the programmatic management of all projects
  • Leads the design and development of program strategies and plans with the program team and ensures their alignment with Nawaya strategies
  • Ensures the program team stays abreast of the current program goals and objectives and participates in the program expansion plans.
  • Ensures the program teams are implementing program activities in line with donor requirements to achieve project outcomes.
  • Coordinates the preparation of timely and cost-effective operational plans, budgets and strategic plans with the program team
  • Acts as advocacy manager ensuring that the program addresses the needs of the people and is appropriate for the respective target group
  • Supports the Country Director in developing project proposals for new projects.

Program Quality, Accountability and Reporting:

  • Oversees the monitoring and evaluation (ME) and reporting system of Nawaya.
  • Oversees submission of proper accountabilities of program funds and quality narrative reports in line with donor requirements.
  • Provides quarterly updates of lessons learned and best practices to Director and stakeholders ensuring that program lessons are being used to promote improved program delivery.
  • Conducts regular monitoring visits to project locations, including but not limited to, regular presence as a judge in pitches [at least 50% of annual pitch events, and at least one visit per quarter per region where programs are implemented]
  • Identifies gaps and weaknesses in operations and develops solutions in close coordination with team and Director

Program Financial Management

  • Develops, with the support of the Director and Finance team, the Budgets and Program Documents for each Program in line with donor requirements, including forecasting requirements and any new initiatives to be integrated into the budget.
  • Leads the budget planning processes to ensure that program funds are expended according to procedures and plans.
  • Ensures effective country program financial management, including procurement, project implementation, compliances and project financial reporting.

Team Management, Compliances, and Capacity-Building

  • Manages and oversees full team of managers (Field, Training, Marketing, Accounting, Incubation)
  • Communicates the program vision to the program team, leads and directs them toward achieving the program goals and objectives.
  • Creates project management system and ensures deliverables of each department are achieved in a timely manner
  • Creates processes and procedures for different department functions to ensure proper output and deliverables
  • Establishes and maintains systematic work flow and streamlines operations
  • Develops and maintains tools for proper communication between functions and departments
  • Develops and strengthens the program team’s understanding of project cycle management.
  • Ensures that the program team has a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities and accountabilities; supported by clear job descriptions to ensure quality performance.
  • Manages HR activities and issues for all staff, including disciplinary actions, teambuilding activities, and performance assessments 
  • Conducts program staffing needs assessment, presents recommendations to the Director and participates in the recruitment of the program team.
  • Facilitates the capacity building of program team to ensure they have the appropriate skill levels for their positions and are developing to their full capacity; provides the necessary feedback to the program team and completes their performance appraisals.
  • Implements policies and procedures that guide and support Nawaya activities, ensures compliance with Nawaya code of conduct, gender and child protection policies.

Representation and Collaboration

  • Represents Nawaya in various platforms and maintains positive relationships with donors and other relevant stakeholders regarding Nawaya activities, including but not limited to representing Nawaya at LCRP Working Group meetings.
  • Facilitates linkages, collaboration and networking with other civil society organizations and government and other relevant institutions to enhance Nawaya visibility and program activities.
  • Identifies and develops new partnerships with local NGOs, Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and the communities.
  • Oversees the management of existing partnerships.
  • Ensures ownership of the program by local partners and stakeholders.
  • Meets with partners’ staff and community leaders to discuss program improvement as needed.
  • Joins the Director in meetings and represents them when required
