Program / Department Summary

The Mercy Corps Finance Department is responsible for all financial functions in Beirut including accounting, payments and banking, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and grant financial management and compliance.  The Mercy Corps Finance Department ensures compliance with donor regulations as well as Mercy Corps’ internal policies and procedures.  In its role as a support to the Program Department, the Finance Department provides timely reports and assistance to the Country Director and the Program team to ensure that financial resources are used efficiently and effectively.

General Position Summary

Working in the Finance Department under the direction of the Finance Manager, the Finance Coordinator will ensure the accuracy and completeness of Mercy Corps accounting records and will have primary responsibility for managing the monthly accounting cycle.  

Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Posting data entry
    • Bank Reconciliation and daily bank position update
    • Subawards Review and Preparation
    • Payroll Preparation and Payroll Entries import on a Monthly Basis
    • Updating Payment Request Tracker on a Daily Basis
    • Reclasses
    • Review/Prepare - Income Tax Declaration on a Quarterly Basis and R5,R6 Yearly Basis
    • Review/Prepare Social Security Declaration on a Monthly Basis - yearly
    • Vat Declaration
    • Review and Control of all Balance sheet reconciliations (Monthly and Quarterly)
    • Scanning Lease contracts and saving them on the finance shared folder on a Monthly basis
    • Finance Induction
    • Other tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager

Knowledge and Experience

Describe three to five specific expectations in terms of qualifications, education or skills that are requirements for this position.

  • Four or more years of general ledger accounting experience is required.
  • A university degree in accounting is required.
  • Four years experience in the Finance Department of an international NGO is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated competency with computerized general ledger software
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel
  • Prior management experience and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written English skills

Success Factors

The ability to interact effectively with international and national personnel is required.  A demonstrated ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and process information in support of changing program activities is necessary.  A high professional standard of finance and procurement ethics as well as the willingness and ability to enforce compliance with Mercy Corps and donor policies and procedures is essential.  The Senior Finance Officer must be willing to travel to Mercy Corps field offices and project sites.
