Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) is a unique non-profit network and think tank of lawyers which provides creative legal assistance in fragile and conflict-affected areas and places national lawyers at the forefront of legal change. LAW uses advocacy, research, legal empowerment and strategies to bring about this change. LAW’s thematic focuses include: Addressing Sexual and Gender based Violence; Accountability; Natural Resource Exploitation/displacement; and Transitional Justice. BRIEF ABOUT THE PROJECT

“Beirut Blast victims” project, funded by Swiss Solidarity, focuses on providing legal aid to victims and survivors of the Beirut Port Explosion to addressing their needs for housing and shelter, civil documentation, protection, and accountability while enhancing civil society’s ability to respond to the needs of victims and survivors now and in the future.

Functions/ Key Deliverables:

The Legal Information Officer has the following responsibilities:

Legal

  •  Provide free legal information and awareness to the eligibility and intake criteria of the programme;
  • Overall responsibility of the outreach work;
  • Participate in regular trainings and workshops related to project activities as requested by the Programme Manager;
  • Provide free legal information and awareness to victims and survivors of the Beirut blast;
  • Conduct outreach and awareness sessions for victims and survivors of Beirut blast;
  • Attend regular meetings with supervising lawyers to report on progress, observations, and lessons learned;
  • Write regular activity reports and other reporting as required and agreed with Project Lawyer;
  • Other tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Administration

  • Coordinate the schedules of the LAW’s centres in coordination with centres’ officers;
  • Coordinate with Project Lawyers regarding activities;
  • Coordinate activities held in the centres, including scheduling, coordinating other staff, and reporting on events;
  • Write biweekly activity reports and other reporting as required;
  • Ensure data and files are up to date and in accordance with LAW standards including attendance sheets, consent forms, expense reports and other documents required for the implementation of the activities;
  • Coordinate with the procurement/logistics departments for the project daily activities, fill purchase requests, and ensure the correct documentation is submitted to the Finance department;
  • Notes and minutes taking in meetings with the Project Officer, Programme Manager or any other LAW staff who may need assistance during meetings with partners;
  • Accompanying the Project Officer and Programme Manager to field visits, taking notes, recording meeting minutes and undertaking any follow up specified by the Programme Manager;
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Project Officer and Programme Manager;

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor degree in Law;
  • Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English;
  • Minimum 2 years of  experience in providing legal assistance and awareness;
  • Minimum 2 years of previous work with humanitarian/development NGO preferred;
  • Knowledge and experience of criminal law, procedure, and/or human rights law;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience planning and coordinating conferences, roundtables and seminars;
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy;
