Background Information

The Lebanese Observatory for Workers & Employees Rights-L.O.W.E.R. is an independent non-profit organization, reg # 365/2011. L.O.W.E.R. seeks to achieve its strategic goal that aims at protecting the rights of all workers and employees in Lebanon, by developing gender-sensitive and human rights-based inclusive social protection systems and legal frameworks. There were, during the last strategic plan discussions last December 2020, the board members have agreed on a set of interventions under two strategic objectives, where the first is contributing towards inclusive social & legal policies and frameworks, the other is working on promoting enabling and non-discriminatory environment for workers’ rights in Lebanon.

 

Workers' Voice

Accordingly, the idea of workers’ voice has been initiated based on the fact that workers’ rights are under-represented and almost absent in the traditional media content, and workers’ issues are not present in the national dialogue -if happened- and reforms; herefore, L.O.W.E.R. has designed a comprehensive plan with a set of varied media interventions that are focusing on: enhancing public consciousness to support and understand workers’ rights providing access opportunities for workers to alternative media platforms (web channel) to express and claim their rights and views and encouraging engagement among other working groups where solidarity versus discrimination against most vulnerable working groups.

This focus area of work is seeking at promoting workers' voice to effectively influence Lebanese government responsiveness & accountability towards adopting reformed inclusive and non-discriminatory social protection policies & procedures. 

Accordingly, to leverage the impact,  the Observatory is working to add to the media team, and currently looking for a full-time media assistant.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct Desk review, research, data collection as tasked by the Editor-in-Chief & guided by the executive director; 
  2. Create a detailed media work plan which identifies and sequences the activities needed to complete L.O.W.E. R's media & communication plan in a timely and efficient manner;
  3. Coordinate with focal staff involved in the media activities, and revise the schedules as required;
  4. Write articles, statements, and media reports;
  5. Participate, cover and report on activities that are related to L.O.W.E. R’s focus areas of intervention; that include field media coverage, conferences, movements, and set ins and others;
  6. Prepare audio & visual content and familiar with relevant technical requirements that ensure the quality of prepared media tools;
  7. Conduct logistics in coordination with the Editor in Chief, particularly, the location of the video shoot, theme, meetings, timing, cameraman, and producer… in close coordination and follow-up from scratch till completion of production;
  8. Support in editing all L.O.W.E. R's documents as assigned by the Editor-in-Chief. 

Qualifications: 

  1. This position requires the following: 
  2. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Political Studies, Social Work other relevant fields, and experience in media is required.
  3. Experience in an NGO, or INGO, or CSR setting with a strong understanding of how non-profits operate and communicate, experience in international NGOs or UN Agencies is a plus; 
  4. Exceptional professional skills in written and spoken Arabic and English. 
  5. Proficient in social media, communication, audio-visual, and writing media. (A knack for content writing and trends on social media)
  6. Strong understanding of issues in the country, region, and world.
