Kafa has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries. Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, always (both during work hours and outside work hours). Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training. All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.
Scope of work:
The lawyer will work directly with Kafa’s Anti-Trafficking Unit to take the overall responsibility of the technical and socio-legal work carried at the unit targeting women victims of trafficking and abuse, specifically women migrant domestic workers victims of abuse and labor exploitation/trafficking as well as women victims of sexual exploitation, prostitution and sex trafficking. The candidate needs to demonstrate a deep interest in issues related to feminism, human trafficking for labor and sexual exploitation, violence against women, and should have a good knowledge and previous experience working on these topics.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Supervise social workers work and ensure accuracy, quality and efficiency of the socio-legal assistance provided;
- To be available and to follow up closely with the social workers operating the 24/7 helpline
- Organize regular meetings and case conference meetings with the shelter team to monitor progress and discuss observations and lessons learned;
- Coordinate and follow up with the relevant authorities: judges, prosecutors, the internal security forces and the general security office.
Legal tasks
- Provide legal counselling to women migrant domestic workers victims of abuse and labor exploitation and women victims of prostitution and trafficking for sexual exploitation;
- Provide legal assistance and representation for the beneficiaries of the Anti-Trafficking Unit;
- Support in identifying and creating referral networks to medical and psychological support, health support; cash/food assistance;
- Identify cases for strategic litigation on behalf of target groups;
- Conduct desk review and research related to labor and sex trafficking; domestic work, prostitution, gender-based violence, etc.
- Contribute to advocacy strategy and initiatives;
- Contribute to monthly reports and include success stories.
Support and administration
- Take on any administrative, logistical or other support tasks needed to ensure the programs run at the Anti-Trafficking unit;
- Adhere to deadlines and take on tasks proactively.
- Deliver reports and ensure they are filled accurately.
