SCOPE OF WORK
The Advocacy and Communication Officer will work with Kafa’s Anti-Trafficking within the framework of the project “MIRA – Migrants’ Rights and Advocacy” funded by the EU (EU Grant Contract: NEAR-TS/2020/420-734) and implemented by Caritas Austria, Caritas Lebanon, Amel and Kafa.
The project aim is to contribute to the protection and defense of human rights of migrant workers in Lebanon and working towards the abolishment of the Kafala system. It combines individual support to vulnerable migrant workers with advocacy actions and enhanced collaboration with/and among local government, community members and other civil society organizations (CSOs).
The candidate is expected to develop and implement communications and actions that advance the Unit's mission, objectives, initiatives, and campaigns in relation to migrant domestic workers’ issues.
The candidate needs to demonstrate a deep interest in issues related to feminism, human trafficking for labor and sexual exploitation, violence against women, and should have a good knowledge and previous experience working on these topics.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication:
- Develop and implement a communications strategy in coordination with Kafa’s Anti-trafficking Unit and Media Unit;
- Develop the main messages of the Unit’s media campaigns, and identify the best resources/providers to execute the media and communications materials, and the best platforms to deliver messages and information for online and offline audiences;
- Write press releases and ensure coverage of the main actions and positions taken by Kafa;
- Collect testimonies of survivors of trafficking and exploitation and lay a strategy to communicate them to the public;
- Document media coverage, and collect research and reports on domestic workers and human trafficking issues at a national and international level;
- Respond to audience’s comments on Kafa’s social media platforms; and represent Kafa’s Anti-Trafficking Unit in media interviews;
- Conduct awareness raising and training on subjects related to the Anti-trafficking Unit’s work;
Advocacy:
- Support in the laying down advocacy goals and efforts undertaken by the Unit;
- Contacting and organizing meeting with MPs and lobbying decision-makers;
- Communicate with and engage partners and allies of KAFA in advocacy efforts;
- Write position papers and policy briefs.
Other Duties:
- Coordinate with the implementing partners of the project on joint advocacy and communication activities;
- Coordinate regularly with the Media Unit at Kafa, and report to the Anti-trafficking Unit management;
- Support in administrative and logistics tasks when needed.
