The Climate Change and Environment Program aims to initiate, develop and harness research from the fields of applied and social sciences, to define the most appropriate policy recommendations on issues related to climate change and environment in Lebanon and the Arab world. The program further aspires to stimulate the link between research and policy-making with the objective of improving policy development and the production of scientific discourse in response to policy needs.
 
The Program is currently conducting a research project titled “Informal Systems in Cities in Lebanon and the Region”, in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and will be beginning the field research stage of the study. For this reason, the Program is currently seeking to hire Field Researchers (2) for the duration of 4 months.
 
Basic Function:
 The Field Researchers will be actively involved in field work, research, coordination of events and meetings, as well as other administrative activities under the supervision and support of the Project Coordinator.
 
Responsibilities:

Assist in research, planning, and implementation of all project activities including field work, research interviews, and consultation meetings.
Conduct field work, the majority of which will include conducting interviews and physical mapping of informal service provision sectors in a Beirut neighborhood.
Assist in data entry and interview transcriptions.
Assist in data analysis.
Conduct desktop research when necessary.
Assist in writing papers and reports, presentations for events, event summaries etc.
Prepare collected field data for entry in GIS.

 
Eligibility and Qualifications:

MS/MA in Environmental Sciences, or Environmental Studies, or MA in Urban Policy and Planning or Urban Design, or any related field. Candidates with a BA/BS in similar fields are eligible with a minimum of 2 years of work experience relevant to the fields of study previously mentioned.
Previous experience in field work, specifically in conducting physical mapping, surveys, and interviews.
Previous experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, management, and analysis is preferable.
Ability to be highly organized, efficient, and detail oriented.
Excellent communications skills in English and Arabic.
Knowledge of statistical analysis methods for both qualitative and quantitative datasets is a plus.
Basic knowledge of GIS is a plus.
