Job Title      : Case Worker – Child Protection (CW-CP)

Reports to         : Case Management Officer (Line Manager) / Senior Case worker (Technical Supervisor)

Job Purpose:

Provide appropriate and timely case management by assessing the needs of children with protection concerns, developing and implementing tailored case plans based on needs and ensuring appropriate follow-up while creating a climate of trust and care.

 

Generic Duties:

  1. Conduct intake interviews with individuals identified by the team during outreach work or referred by other agencies, and open a case if vulnerability criteria are met
  2. Carry out comprehensive assessments for each client after receiving their consent and consider emotional, behavioural and social factors that affect their psychosocial well-being as well as protection and risk factors
  3. Conduct home visits to assess clients’ living conditions when necessary
  4. Develop a tailored case plan with the client, based on needs identified during the assessment
  5. Refer clients to appropriate services and when necessary, accompany them and/or advocate on their behalf to different service providers
  6. Provide continuous basic emotional support and counselling through regular follow-up meetings, establishing a relationship built on trust respecting confidentiality protocols
  7. Document cases on the internal case management platform and ensure that any progress on action plan and any significant change in client’s psychosocial well-being and overall situation is timely and duly recorded
  8. Ensure proper and safe filing and archiving of case management files to maintain data confidentiality
  9. Liaise closely with ECA caseworkers and ensure the provision of emergency cash assistance for the most vulnerable beneficiaries, according to the needs of the beneficiaries, the
  10. Close cases when objectives in the case plan are met and no further needs are identified
  11. Carry out all tasks respecting key protection principles, including but not limited to: do no harm, non-discrimination, confidentiality, accountability and need-to-know principles and in full compliance with child protection principles, policies and standards.
  12. Participate in internal case management meetings and bring to immediate attention any case of special/emergency needs to the Senior Caseworker and CMO
  13. Undertake and complete documentation for Best Interest Assessments and Best Interest Determination for submission to Case Management Officer
  14. On a rotational basis, be responsible for holding and responding to hotline calls (24/7), including ensuring that calls are responded to, appropriately documented, provided with immediate advice where necessary and referred to the case management officer for onwards assignment.
  15. Maintain good relations with outreach volunteers in areas of assignment
  16. Ensure good relationships and coordination with the main service providers in the area of intervention to improve identification of persons with specific needs for prompt referral, follow up and information sharing
  17. Identify and report gaps in the availability and quality of services provision for clients in the target areas
  18. Undertake other tasks as relevant to the Child Protection Case Worker role

 

Specific Duties:

(Can be adapted to the particularities of the job location and the requirement of the project. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired).

  1. Plan with the Senior case worker to conduct home visits to assess the living conditions of the cases when appropriate, when needed, and if the child or the survivor give her/his consent;
  2. Ensure the preparation of accurate case plans for high-risk cases identified with clearly outcomes and time-frame.
  3. Mapping of services in area of intervention and reporting information to SCW and/or CMO
  4. Advocate with different institutions and services providers to help the beneficiaries to access needed resources and services
  5. Implementation of case management in the intervention location in accordance with all CM steps and related tools and procedures as defined through INTERSOS Protection Strategy. addressing high risk cases and sharing with SCW for possible intervention
  6. Prepare and draft BIAs/BIDs and submit to the CMO for final review.

PSS Activities include:

  1. Participate and collaborate in other activities (recreational, psychosocial, awareness, emotional support groups) conducted on the field when requested by the supervisors.
  2. Support the organization of specific events or activities inside or outside the centres.

 

Monitoring and Reporting:

  1. Provide daily and weekly updates to the SCW about new cases assessed;
  2. Contribute to the update of the INTERSOS case management system (as example: knack)
  1. Support the SCW on the elaboration of the weekly/monthly reports to the CMO and Reporting/MEAL officer.

 

Education:

 

  • University Degree in a related field e.g. Social Work, Psychology or equivalent
