Job Purpose

Mapping and Visualisations Assistant role is to support the Disaster and Crisis Prevention, Response and Recovery (DCPRR) mainly on IM function within in the IFRC MENA Region with development, maintenance and update of information products and visualisations for the Emergency Operations including COVID-19 pandemic in the MENA region, the Mapping and visualisations assistant and under the guidance of the IM Officer will support MENA National Societies to collect, analyse and create layouts among other products to support emergency response at both regional- and country-levels.

Since the GO Platform will be a key asset for National Societies to host their preparedness and operational information products (dashboards, layouts and maps…), the Mapping and Visualisation assistant will support the creating and maintenance of analytical products based on NSs’ data, specifically Emergency response spatial analysis and visualizations. S/He will support and train National societies to developing visuals and IM products for the data analysis at the regional- and country-levels. 

The Mapping and Visualisation Assistant will help the Regional IM Officer to maintain critical databases that facilitate data collection and mapping from National Societies, besides, to follow up on other information layouts that require updates with a defined frequency.

The job responsibilities include close collaboration with the Regional IM Officer and the IM focal points within the MENA region, with different IFRC staff members, and more broadly, with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement members to:

- Support the IM pillar in visuals for the emergency operation including COVID-19.
- Support National Societies to develop their visualization products and add them to their specific emergency pages ongoing.
- Support National Societies on mapping and visuals practices for developing and managing their products.
- Collaborate with regional IM Officer in capacity building activities to Movement partners in the MENA Region.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain existing mapping databases and information sharing systems deployed for emergency operation including COVID-19.

Ensure an efficient data collection and mapping system aligned with IFRC and National Society needs that allows analysis and presentation of information.

Support, advise or facilitate (when assigned) the analysis and related reporting processes based on the analysis framework.

Support the IM Officer to develop geographic information and spatial analysis products and visuals (using GIS, PowerBI, Adobe Illustrator) to all those who require them in a timely and useful visual format.

Advocate for the use of IM visual tools and products in decision making and reporting.

Help the regional IM to establish clear information flows and explain them to whoever needs to make use of it, both as users and managers.

Create maps, infographics, dashboards, designed layouts, and other data visualisation products filling needs and requirements and disseminate.

Ensure that IM products are accurate, comprehensible, clear, and simple.

Support the IM Officer to ensure that information is updated on GO-platform to facilitate information sharing and promote the usage of the platform in support of the operations.

Support the IM Officer to provide technical support to GO COVID-19 emergency pages for National Societies.

Support the IM Officer on capacity building activities for National Societies to grow the IM component and visuals in the region.

Support the IM Officer on Technical training for National Societies

Any other reasonable tasks as stipulated by the line manager and other seniors 
 

Education
 

Bachelor’s degree relevant to the position-Required
 

Experience

2+ year(s) experience with graphic design and data visualisation with the ability to translate complex digital information into clear and attractive graphic representations.-Required

1+ year(s) experience with GIS tools and the ability to produce maps to visualise geographic information and spatial analysis.-Required

1+ year experience with mobile data collection tools (Kobo and ODK)-Required

Strong background in data and information management and informatics-Required

Strong computer literacy skills with advanced skills in MS Excel-Required

Experience within the humanitarian field, preferred on disaster response and project management -Preferred 

1 (+) years of experience within the RCRC Movement-Preferred
 

Knowledge, skills and languages

Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential, with the ability to craft an analytical narrative from data findings-Required  

Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy in order to manage relationships with many stakeholders and in a complex situational environment-Required  

Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize, order, process and prioritize large amounts of information-Required  

Strong attention to detail in both listening and visualisation design-Required  

Ability to take initiative to create new processes from scratch and act to fill identified gaps-Required  

Strong knowledge of data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, GIS tools)-Required  

Skills in database management, web design and programming-Preferred 

The good domain of information technology is an advantage-Required  

Languages

Fluently spoken and written Arabic-Required 
Fluently spoken and written English-Required 
Good command of another IFRC official language (i.e., French)-Preferred
