Consultant Trainers in Conflict Sensitivity

 

About the project

International Alert Lebanon in partnership with UNDP Lebanon is providing Conflict Sensitivity Training and Guidance to organisations working within the framework of the Lebanon Response Plan (LRP).

The project objective is to strengthen the capacities of LRP partners to support recovery and stabilization in a conflict sensitive way. As part of the support Alert will be providing training in Conflict Sensitivity and Do No Harm to staff of national and international organisations operating across Lebanon and one Training for Trainers for selected professionals preparing to deliver conflict sensitivity workshops to their colleagues and partners.

We are seeking to contract two individual trainers or a company to join our in-house team of trainers and support the delivery of the conflict sensitivity trainings. We welcome applications from individual consultants, teams of consultants and companies.

 

Objectives and Scope of Work

The aim of this assignment is to deliver trainings in conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm and one Training for Trainers (ToT).

Each of the selected consultants will work in a team with a staff member of International Alert, and deliver trainings in both English and Arabic. All trainings are planned to take place in-person, in Beirut and in the regions (likely training locations are Beirut, Tripoli, Saadnayel/ Zahle, location in South Lebanon to be confirmed).

The training content is available and will be updated by the training teams, adjusting it to the context and incorporating participant feedback.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend inception meetings with Alert to develop the training schedules.
  • In collaboration with a co-trainer from International Alert, update existing training materials and develop a training plan integrating interactive sessions, case studies, and group activities.
  • Develop any additional training materials to complement the existing package, including handouts, templates, and guidelines.
  • Conduct digital Pre/Post-training assessment with participants.
  • Conduct training sessions as per the training schedules.
  • Foster a collaborative learning environment to promote knowledge sharing among training participants.
  • Provide regular updates on progress, challenges, and proposed solutions to Alert team.
  • Work with Alert team to identify areas for continuous improvement in future trainings.
  • In collaboration with the co-trainer from Alert, develop training reports for all trainings delivered.

 

Contract duration and level of effort

The trainings will take place between March and November 2025. The training schedule will be finalized upon contracting the consultants.

The anticipated maximum number of working days, which includes preparation, training and reporting, is indicated below. These days will likely be split between two consultants based on their availability. Payments will be made based on the actual number of working days for each consultant.

  1. 10 two-day Exposure trainings in conflict sensitivity, delivered to staff members of national and international organisations, 10 groups of 25 participants in different locations, in English and Arabic – maximum 26 days
  2. 1 five-day TOT, one group of 12 participants, in Beirut, in Arabic – maximum 10 working days
  3. 2 two-day trainings for members of two LRP sectors/ working groups, two groups of 25 participants, in Beirut, in English – maximum 6 working days

Deliverables:

  1. Updated training materials and detailed training plans for each training, jointly with a co-trainer from International Alert. All trainings need to integrate interactive sessions, case studies, and group activities.
  2. Delivery of the agreed upon trainings - maximum 12 two-day trainings and 1 five-day ToT (likely to be split between two consultants), in English and Arabic. All trainings will be delivered by teams of two trainers – one Consultant and one Alert team member.
  3. Training reports for each delivered training, co-written with the co-trainer from Alert, and including summary of the content delivered, the content produced by training participants (including case studies and examples from the field), the results of the pre- and post-training assessment, and the trainers’ team reflections and recommendations for future sessions.

Support and resources to be provided by Alert

The Consultant(s) will work closely with Alert’s team to develop, deliver and report on the trainings. Alert will organize transportation to all training locations. Alert staff will organize all logistics for the trainings and will coordinate with training participants.

The Consultant(s) will be responsible for their transportation in Beirut and need to have their own computer. 

Alert will provide all existing training materials and key background documents (if needed) to support the Consultant(s) in the assignment.

Payments will be made based on the actual number of working days identified in the training schedules and completed by the Consultant and upon submission of an invoice.

Required qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in training, guidance and support in Do No Harm, Conflict Sensitivity and Peacebuilding.
  • Demonstrated experience in working on similar portfolio of projects with international and national organisations.
  • In-depth knowledge of conflict analysis, conflict sensitive programming and Do No Harm and their application in recovery and stabilization projects.
  • Familiarity with the LRP and the LRP sector coordination system.
  • In-depth understanding of the context in Lebanon and the social tensions in different regions.
  • Professional and educational background in international relations, governance, international development, policy making, social sciences or other relevant fields to the scope of the consultancy.
  • Substantive knowledge and understanding of cultural sensitivity and commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic is required. Ability to conduct trainings in Arabic is essential. Ability to conduct trainings in both languages is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, including following data protection guidelines.

  • An expression of interest highlighting the relevant experience and qualification, a description of the approach and plans to deliver the service, and notes on availability in the period of the assignment.
  • A CV of the Consultant. Companies should share CVs of at least two consultants with a clear description of each Consultant’s role (i.e. senior consultant, junior consultant). The CVs should not exceed four pages each.
  • A financial proposal indicating Consultant’s daily rate.
