Inclusive Environment for Older People and Persons with Disabilities Expert

I’mpossible is partnering with PCPM under the LHF-funded project to address unmet multi-sectoral needs in Wadi Khaled, Jered El Qaytaa and Sahel Akkar focusing on the most vulnerable populations, including Persons with Specific Needs (PWSN): person with serious medical condition, persons with disabilities, elderly and protection risks.

As part of this project, I’m Possible will implement targeted awareness campaigns for direct beneficiaries, youth, and community members. These sessions, led by experts, will cover a range of topics including support for Persons with Disabilities and their caregivers. By fostering a supportive environment and providing targeted education and resources, this project will empower youth, the elderly, and PWSN in Akkar to build resilience against community challenges and lay the foundation for a more secure and prosperous future.

 

Purpose of the assignment
I’m possible is dedicated to promoting an inclusive environment for older people and people with specific needs in communities through awareness. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Expert to deliver engaging and informative sessions on promoting an inclusive environment for older people and people with impairment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, interactive and accessible sessions focused on the Rights of PwDs, mental health and well-being of PwD, older persons, and caregiving best practices. The sessions will target: PwSN, Caregivers, youth and health care professionals. The expert will adapt the sessions and awareness materials based on the targeted groups.
  • Promote holistic care, addressing physical, psychological, and social needs, ultimately enhancing their well-being.
  • Cooperate with other organizations specialized in PwD’s inclusion to draw on existing capacities and learnings and promote a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community where the elderly, PwSN and persons at risk are not stigmatized.
  • Support the collection and analysis of information to identify protection barriers such as negative attitude, discrimination and stigmatization associated with people with disabilities and older people and their access to basic needs and address the identified needs in the awareness campaign.
  • The Expert will be required to prepare a detailed methodology and work plan indicating how the objectives of the project will be achieved.
  • Develop a full sessions package, based on needs, gaps and priorities, including PowerPoint presentation, handouts, exercises and tools.
  • Facilitate discussions and encourage participant engagement.
  • Collaborate with I’m possible team to improve session content and delivery methods.

 

Cooperation with Protection Sector

  • Ensure the session content is aligned with the Protection and Health Sectors guidelines and unified messaging.
  • Support the I’mPossible team in tailoring the message to the unique needs of elderly and PwSN in the context of inclusion challenges.

Reporting

The Expert will report to the Protection Officer and Project Coordinator at I’mPossible, in coordination with the PCPM Protection Officer and Project Coordinator and the Protection sector. Regular updates and progress reports will be shared to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.

Deliverables

  • Submit a curriculum for the awareness sessions, tailored to the target groups. The curriculum should incorporate protection-related issues, multisectoral messages, and inclusive approaches for elderly and PwSN.
  • Submit a methodology outlining the process and approach for delivering the sessions, with clear objectives, learning outcomes, and strategies for engagement.
  • Develop presentations and training materials, incl. brochures, and interactive activities, ensuring that they are tailored to the specific needs of the targeted groups.
  • Provide daily updates to the protection and project officer on project progress against work plan. Document and share lessons learned with the I’m Possible staff.
  • Submit a final report summarizing the work completed, detailing challenges faced, and offering recommendations for future improvements.

     

Geographical location of the project

  • Selected villages in Wadi Khaled, Jered Al Qayteh, and Sahel Akkar unions of municipalities in Akkar.

Duration of the consultancy

  • A total of 21 working days over 3-4 months between December 2024 and March 2025, including 18 days for the awareness sessions implementations and 3 days for curriculum preparation and reporting.

Qualifications

The Inclusive Environment for Older People and Persons with Disabilities Expert should possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Social Work, Public Health, Human Rights, Disability Studies, Gerontology, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications or training in Disability Inclusion, Ageing, or Inclusive Development would be an advantage.
  • At least 3 assignments/ proven years of experience in designing and delivering inclusion awareness sessions.
  • Proven record in working with elderly, PwSN and those persons with chronic illnesses.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt materials to different learning styles.
  • Knowledge of disability rights frameworks and policies relating to the rights and inclusion of elderly persons and PwD.
  • Proficiency in Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, reporting tools, feedback tool…

  • Experience in designing and facilitating training programs and awareness campaigns on inclusive practices for different audiences.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with the ability to engage different groups (youth, elderly, PwSN) in a participatory and inclusive manner.
