JOB TITLE: 

Community Center Officer.

 

Description:

Helem is seeking a dedicated Community Center Officer to join its energetic and diverse team in fulfilling its vision and missions. Following Helem’s guidelines and protocols, the community center officer will assist their department in implementing projects and programs that serve both the cause and the needs of the LGBTIQ+ community.  We are looking for a team player to engage with community members, groups, and external stakeholders, turn ideas into initiatives and grow our community center into a safe place to bond, heal, grow, learn, solve collective problems, and build power. 

Job Tasks and Duties:

- Co-manage Helem’s community space including all activities, classes, and events in coordination with Helem staff, members, volunteers, and external parties. 

- Ensure that the management and supervision of all Helem center activities are in adherence to the organization’s guidelines, rules, values, and are in accordance with its mission and vision. 

- Create and design activities, events, projects, and outreach initiatives with community members and groups to address common needs and interests in collaboration with Helem’s staff. 

- Support the Community Center Manager and other relevant colleagues in maintaining calendars and schedules, engaging with stakeholders, and mobilizing participants.

 - Manage and coordinate the maintenance of a meticulous log of all members, clubs, committees, and beneficiaries of the community center.

- Support the Community Center Manager in all forms of engagement with members, volunteers, and beneficiaries including creating and maintaining relevant communications and archiving systems. 

- Present written or verbal reporting when needed or requested.

- Ensure all beneficiaries, members, and visitors of the center are treated in accordance with its guidelines, regulations, rights, and responsibilities.

- Ensure that all of the center’s physical and logistical needs, including the purchase of consumables and other necessary items for activities, are available and constantly up to date.

- Monitor all assets and supplies of the center and fill the inventory sheet monthly, report any lost or damaged items to the manager. 

- Ensure that all of the center’s payments, bills, and upkeep costs are paid and recorded accurately in a timely and professional manner.

- Ensure the center and its assets are respected at all times, and that the community center  is kept clean, tidy, and orderly.

 

Job requirements:

 

Education and work experience:

 

- Completion of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a related field e.g. social work, human sciences, social sciences, education, or equivalent.

- At least one to two years of prior professional experience working in community settings or space management.

 

Key skills and competencies:

- Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ individuals and communities;

- Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and ensure their needs are met;

- A demonstrated passion for the community center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;

- Strong management, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines;

- Strong verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English and Arabic (French also preferred);

- Ability to troubleshoot and manage conflict within community members and to maintain the strictest levels of professionalism and confidentiality; 

- Capacity to operate independently as well as work as part of a growing team; 

- Strong computer literacy required in MS Office (Microsoft Word and Excel).
