Position Overview: The Health Social Worker will play a vital role in providing comprehensive support to individuals and families facing health-related challenges. This position involves assessment, counseling, and collaboration with medical teams to ensure holistic care for GASCF patients under the supervision of Senior Health Social Worker.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assessment and Planning:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of the medical, psychological, and social needs of patients, including children, adults, and their families.
  • Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with medical and mental health professionals to ensure holistic support for patients.
  • Identify and address immediate needs upon case arrival, such as emergency healthcare, clothing, and food assistance.

2. Counseling and Psychosocial Support:

  • Provide trauma-informed counseling and emotional support to individuals and families who have experienced conflict, displacement, and loss.
  • Facilitate tailored family intervention sessions, stress management workshops, and psychoeducational activities to promote mental well-being.
  • Refer patients requiring intensive psychological care to appropriate services.

3. Collaboration with Medical Team and Case Management:

  • Collaborate with medical teams (doctors, nurses, mental health specialists) to ensure the comprehensive addressing of both physical and emotional needs of patients.
  • Schedule medical appointments and accompany patients to healthcare facilities, ensuring follow-up and transportation assistance.
  • Maintain records of medications to ensure timely intake as recommended by physicians.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and various NGOs, UN agencies, and community organizations to facilitate access to necessary services such as education and recreational activities.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss case progress and updates.
  • Maintain a clear and organized schedule of all activities and appointments for each family to ensure routine and efficiency in service delivery.

4. Crisis Intervention and Advocacy:

  • Provide crisis intervention in situations of acute stress or medical emergencies, ensuring patients are stabilized and supported.
  • Advocate for the rights and dignity of patients, ensuring fair treatment in all interactions with service providers and institutions.

5. Cultural Competency and Sensitivity:

  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to the cultural, religious, and historical contexts of patients from diverse backgrounds, ensuring services respect their beliefs and values.
  • Adapt interventions to be culturally relevant and appropriate to the needs of the population served.

6. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interactions with each family, including assessments, care plans, referrals, follow-ups, and medical prescriptions.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on case progress, challenges, and outcomes to the executive director.

7. Training and Capacity Building:

  • Provide training to volunteers and other social workers on trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, and effective practices for working with displaced populations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in medical social work and humanitarian responses.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical social work or a related field; Master’s degree in Social Work is a plus
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in social work, preferably in a healthcare or NGO setting.
  • Licensure: Valid social work license or certification as required by local regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong assessment, counseling, and crisis intervention skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both in English and Arabic
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Proficiency in documentation and reporting practices.
    • Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populations.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • Experience working with displaced populations or in humanitarian settings is a plus.
    • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
    • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily field-based role, requiring physical stamina to engage with patients in various community settings.
  • May involve travel to remote locations and working in challenging environments.
  • Exposure to emotionally charged situations and vulnerable populations.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet the needs of patients and families.
  • Due to the work conditions, candidates must reside in the Beirut area.
