Strengthening Agriculture, Local Communities and Small and Medium Enterprises (ACE) Project
- Recruitment context
The GIZ ACE project Strengthening Agriculture, Local Communities and Small and Medium Enterprises (ACE) aims to strengthen economic stabilization and improve social cohesion through targeted measures to promote cooperation and exchange in selected communities in Lebanon. The GIZ ACE project is looking for a volunteer to support the project operation in Beirut. The volunteer will ensure support in the day-to-day project implementation of ACE for the period of February to April with possible extension to July 2025.
The volunteer will work under the orientation of experienced ACE project Advisors, to whom they shall report directly. The volunteer ensures a culture of communication and cooperation, contributing actively to the operations of the project.
The volunteer will receive an action plan and regular feedback organized and implemented by the responsible project officer.
- Required Qualifications, Competencies and Knowledge: Formal Education
- University degree in Agriculture.
- Interest and passion for the goals of GIZ Lebanon
- Curious, tenacious and with attention to detail
- Embracing challenges and a positive work attitude
Other qualifications:
- Previous work/volunteer experience with INGOs or NGOs is a plus
- Previous work/volunteer experience is a plus
- Previous GIZ experience is a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic, German is a plus
- Sound understanding of international cooperation
- Creative, open-minded team player with strong willingness to learn
- Ability to think and work independently and work precisely with attention to detail
- Technical digital knowledge in Office 365, including OneDrive, MS Teams and SharePoint.
- Basic knowledge of the EU GDPR and general understanding of Information Security.
- The volunteer will support in the following:
Support ACE project in Beirut in the daily operational tasks, including:
- Reviewing prospective partners project’s concept notes, proposals, and budgets
- Assisting on “local contribution” projects follow up, and reporting
- Monitoring the development and implementation of project/programme plans and activities in close consultation with counterparts.
- Visiting project sites, and activities on a timely basis
- Assisting in the design, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars and other events on issues connected with the project/programme’s area of activity
- Suggesting quality assurance measures and changes for improvements
- Participating in technical meetings with other ACE project components to ensure synergies
- Producing reports, presentations and other communication material
- Preparing and participating in partner visits in the project’s regions of implementation (Beqaa and Mount Lebanon)
- Providing support in preparing project interim reports that follows GIZ monitoring and evaluation procedures.
- Assist in drafting documents such as minutes of meetings, Terms of references or agendas
- Drafting quarterly reports on projects implementation in English and German (if applicable)
- Monitoring and evaluating overall activities in project locations and report the achievements of results.
- Providing feedback to the Core Team of area of action one (agriculture)
- Providing weekly feedback to the partner activities done
- Ensuring context-sensitivity and Do-No-Harm
- Implementing daily operational aspects of all issues related to the project.
Duration: 3 months (February – April 2025) with option to extend up to 6 months (February - July 2025)
Project Description: The situation in Lebanon is characterized by a structural economic and financial crisis and by the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic and the explosion in the port of Beirut in August 2020. The focus of the new Transitional Development Assistance project is to strengthen the socio-economic resilience of vulnerable groups in Bekaa, Hasbaya, and Mount Lebanon. This is done along three fields of action (1) strengthening agriculture, (2) promoting MSMEs and start-ups, and (3) promoting social cohesion at the local level.
