The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV, practical testing and interviews. Best candidates will be invited to the final [interview, test, presentation or whatever final phase is most suitable].

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. We offer

The post of Press and Information Officer (Local Agent Group I) in the Delegation’s Political, Press & Information Section. The team consists of seven people and there are typical working hours. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the communication field. Following main tasks and duties are currently required: 

  • Analyze the trends and developments in the Syrian information environment and provide recommendations for improving the understanding of the EU's values, policies and projects based on fact-based information and proactive communication;
  • Establish and maintain a network of key information environment experts on Syria, who could support the EU Delegation in its monitoring and awareness raising activities;
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and coordination, together with the P&I officer, of campaigns, outreach events and communication projects on specific issues and priorities, including with a goal to address disinformation targeting the EU and its policy and/or activities in Syria;
  • Closely cooperate with the EEAS Strategic Communications Task Forces;
  • Perform other tasks as designated by the Head of Section, according to the needs of the Delegation;
  • Replace the other Press and Information Officer in her absence.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Professional experience: At least three (3) years of experience in political science, international relations,  journalist, or communication preferably in an international and multi-cultural environment.

Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant)

  • IT tools: Good computer skills on MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail applications, social media platforms relevant for the above-mentioned tasks;
  • Has a perfect knowledge of English language and a native command of the Arabic language;
  • Have the capacity to create constructive working relations with key partners in the country, building up a local network;
  • Have a good knowledge of the regional Middle-Eastern region and politics;
  • Have strong drafting and analytical skills combined with sound judgement, rapid grasp of problems and the capacity to identify issues and solutions;
  • Have knowledge of external relations, internal policies and functioning of the European Union;
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain a network of contacts both within and outside the Delegation;
  • Have a good knowledge in communications and public diplomacy (e.g. strategic communications, media relations, campaigning, content production, marketing, online marketing, social media monitoring and management, audio-visual content development, strategic communications in countering violent extremism);
  • Have the ability to communicate clearly on complex issues and the capacity to perform with accuracy and in a flexible manner a diversity of tasks in a complex institutional environment.
