Short Term Technical Assistance - Local Trainer - Climate-Smart Livelihoods Initiatives and Market Access Tailoring (CLIMAT)

 

CLIMAT is a one-year Food for Training (FFT) project implemented by Cooperation Without Borders (CWB) and the Environment and Sustainable Development Unit (ESDU) at the American University of Beirut and funded by the German Cooperation through the World Food Program (WFP). It aims to sustainably improve the skills, capacities and livelihood opportunities of vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian refugees in Northeast Baalbeck and West Bekaa. CLIMAT will build capacities for women and youth, provide agriculture training for individuals and cooperatives including skills building and material support, and create market linkages. Three value chains will be targeted including small ruminant production, alternative and climate-smart agricultural crop production, and agro-food processing. 

 

Under this project, CWB is seeking to recruit a Local Trainer, who will be responsible for preparing and providing training sessions on rug production in addition to facilitating the selection of beneficiaries.

 

 

Objectives

The objective of the Local Trainer position is to manage and provide training sessions on the manufacturing of artisanal rugs from local natural raw material.

 

 

Scope of Work

 

The Local Trainer expert will be primarily responsible of the following activities:

 

  • Facilitate the selection of qualified beneficiaries according to well-identified criteria
  • Adapt/localize existing curricula
  • Coordinate with the Agriculture Engineer to review existing training curriculum
  • Identify improvements to the proposed training curriculum, tools and/or delivery method and as well as ensure training materials are appropriate for the local context
  • Manage training sessions, including participant identification, training delivery, logistical arrangements, and training reports
  • Track all training-related activities
  • Train a minimum of 30 participants on the manufacturing of artisanal rugs from local natural raw material and ensure each participant receives well the training material and manufactures an artisanal rug of good quality at the end of the training course
  • Contribute to designing and implementing participant, session and project evaluation tools
  • Conduct monitoring, evaluation and impact documentation
  • Coordinate with the Agriculture Engineer to determine the need for follow-up support
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the Agriculture Engineer to feed into overall project reports in line with donor requirements
  • Document and disseminate best practices, innovations, lessons learned and proven methodologies
  • Develop any needed documents according to CWB needs (i.e. brochures, summary project information, etc.)
  • Maintain good professional relationships with CWB team, CWB volunteers and partners
  • Relocate or face a longer commute as and when required

 

 

Essential Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in artisanal rug manufacturing.
  • Proven work experience in training provision
  • Strong time-management and multitasking skills
  • Knowledge and exposure to the social and cultural values of the region
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the Arabic language

 

 

Period

 

  • 7 months from January 1, 2019 to July 31, 2019
