JOB SUMMARY
The advocacy officer position involves coordinating with the protection department, and communication department to develop and implement advocacy strategies and activities related to migrant workers' rights in Lebanon. The role includes coordinating workshops, trainings, policy development, generating and disseminating information, preparing press releases and reports, building strategic networks, and contributing to advocacy campaigns. The candidate should have 5-7 years of advocacy experience, knowledge of human rights issues, particularly regarding migration and human trafficking, proficiency in English and Arabic, and the ability to work cooperatively under pressure. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong communication skills, be proactive, and have the ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
MAJOR DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Activities
The advocacy officer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Coordinate the advocacy and awareness activities within the project in close coordination with LEA team.
- Contribute to the consortium stakeholder analysis, prepare the roundtables and logistics, reporting the results.
- Develop and ensure execution of advocacy campaign plan(s) with the partners and the EU.
- Continuously remain informed of all key policy developments relevant to the rights of migrant workers in Lebanon, supporting policy analysis.
- Act as the focal point of the project in generating and disseminating information.
- Provide analysis and prepare press releases with the communication department.
- Coordinate the logistics for workshops, roundtables, trainings for stakeholders.
- Deliver the topics in trainings depending on the expertise.
- Develop reports on project actions, policy papers, and fact sheets.
- Build and maintain a network of strategic contacts and collaboration with all relevant stakeholders including government officials, embassies and consulate representatives, civil society organizations in and outside Lebanon, domestic workers and community leaders, the media, and other key entities, maintaining regular contacts and exchanges of information on advocacy priorities.
- Support the communication department in conceiving a full-fledged media campaign and oversee its production and implementation.
- Contribute to building strategic alliances with other civil society organizations, identifying opportunities for joint advocacy and communications efforts.
- Contribute to the Caritas Lebanon advocacy strategy.
- Support other relevant activities for advocacy and lobbying in the project.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Academic:
- Bachelor Degree in Social sciences, journalism, public relation,International Law or any related field.
Other Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working with civil society in Lebanon, the media and information sector, communication agencies, non-governmental organizations and/or international organizations
- Good knowledge about human rights, particularly the rights of migrants, domestic workers’ issues and human trafficking
- Demonstrated in-depth experience in developing successful advocacy strategies
- Experience working on campaigns (i.e. media campaigns and/or mixed media, digital, social media campaigns)
- Experience drafting and editing a range of different information materials for various audiences and communication tools (i.e. publications, social media, websites)
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and high proficiency in English and Arabic
- Be a resident of Lebanon, with the ability to work inside Lebanon
- Proactive and self-initiating attitude
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
- Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the project
- Knowledge of the media sector in Lebanon and prior experience working specifically on issues associated with the rights of migrant workers and advocacy will be considered an asset.
- Ability to perform under pressure
Related Work Experience:
- 5 to 7 years of extensive experience in related field , progressively responsible, working in advocacy, and/or public accountability, ideally in Lebanon or the broader Middle East region
Language skills:
•English and Arabic, Knowledge of French is an advantage.
Computer Literacy:
•MS-Word / MS-Excel – Intermediate level
