POSITION OBJECTIVE

A Caregiver contributes to the psychological and physiological well-being of the adolescent girls at the Shelter and provides them with daily learning activities and programs.

DUTIES:

  • Look after the basic needs of adolescents, such as dressing, feeding, promoting good hygiene, parenting (for adolescents with kids) and supervising
  • Maintain a safe “home away from home”, sanitary and clean environment for the children under their care
  • Encourage tidiness and care of personal belongings
  • Prepare, organize and supervise mealtimes and snacks
  • Supervision of bed times
  • Provide a beneficial learning environment; i.e.: read and play with adolescents to introduce social skills and manners and to teach language and vocabulary. Use storytelling, games or creative activities according to the interests of the residents
  • Help adolescents with their homework
  • Create routines to make sure that girls have a balanced amount of physical activity, rest and playtime
  • Engage in active communication, supervise adolescents for any safety concerns and make them feel cared for, especially when they have mental health problems
  • Watch carefully for any signs of emotional or psychological issues with children by drawing the attention of the concerned staff regarding any inappropriate behavior that might occur
  • Create a positive relationship within the group and other staff
  • Assist in implementing conflict resolution methods and support the coordination of crisis responses
  • Document any incident that may occur during the shift
  • Provide a complete handover at the end of each shift to other staff members
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Immediate Supervisor
