Iraq: Develop Supplier and Vendor Partnerships for Business Growth - Water Energy for Food: Grand Challenge for Development

Scope of work

Main Objective: The selected service provider will work with Bahir Al Kamal (hereinafter referred to as the “The Firm”) to develop a "Supplier (Vendor) Partnership for Business Growth" with a focus on fast-tracking operations and sales in Iraq.

 

Key activities:

  1. Understand the solar water pumping solutions offered by Bahir Al Kamal and their market fit to Iraq.
  2. Map potential manufacturers and B2B suppliers for relevant solar water systems either locally or internationally that provide system delivery on an installment payment basis for systems between 5 and 50Kwh.
  3. Conduct a partnership map showing 10-15 potential partners (locally and/or internationally) and the pros and cons for each one along with their contact information, product review reflecting quality and pricing.
  4. Develop/Enhance SOP; for payment policies and procedures, also provide guideline documents outlining a strategy of engagement with suppliers.
  5. Facilitate introductions and prepare 2 to 10 meetings with the suppliers, and prepare Bahir El Kamal business case presentation with the suppliers
  6. Develop demand planning strategy for Bahir Al Kamal including:
    1. Metrics to help the company improve forecast accuracy, increase visibility across the supply chain,
    2. A comprehensive template to track supplies and stock movement for 1-year showing stock in transit, current stock at the warehouse (opening stock), forecasted stock, sales and closing stock this would be breakdown by SKU, by month, by week and will be the standard tool for shipments
  7. Facilitate introductions with banks and prepare at least two meetings with different banks/financing institutions and prepare Bahir El Kamal business case presentation. This activity is optional. Not covering it in the offer will not eliminate the service provider.

Main Deliverables

  1. A fully defined work plan using the WE4F work plan template, provided to the selected support provider, which will be approved by the WE4F RIH MENA prior to the actual support delivery start. This work plan will lay out the activities, timeline for completion, and who is responsible from the support provider side and the innovator / client side and should be submitted within one week of contracting and after a kick-off meeting with the innovator
  2. Report on outputs of activities 1 to 6
  3. Potential Report on activity 7 ( Optional)

 

Assumptions

  1. This support is expected to be delivered between Sep and Dec 2022.
  2. Relevant WE4F innovator staff will be available to respond to questions and information requests from the support provided within a time frame that enables the project to meet on-time completion.
  3. Bahir Al Kamal will provide all relevant information needed to establish the work including previous market studies.
  4. The service provider must be available for regular meetings (mostly virtual) with Bahir Al Kamal and other relevant WE4F country teams for discussions and iterations of the drafted documents.

 

Site Visit and Work Plan

  1. Site visit or conference call with the innovator will occur after award being confirmed and contract signed. Through its consultation with the innovator, the selected service provider has the flexibility to propose new deliverables and/or revise the deliverables stated above based on the information it gathers and its understanding of the innovator’s goals and needs. The selected service provider would document these new or revised deliverables in the work plan it drafts after its initial conversations with the innovator.
  2. Berytech will review and approve the vendor’s work plan. If during the initial requirements gathering calls the selected vendor determines that it is unable to deliver the work requested, the vendor will be compensated for its time investment to complete the work plan and will be released from any obligation to complete the project beyond the work plan. For budgeting purposes, the vendor should allocate $1,000 for its effort to complete the work plan.

 

ESG Consideration

The service provider will ensure that any guidelines or documents prepared for this support assignment are inclusive, gender-responsive, and consider environmental sustainability conditions. The service provider must also exercise transparency and neutrality in establishing contacts with relevant stakeholders. In terms of partnerships, suppliers should be assessed on aspects relevant to environmental performance. 

 

Impact

The intended impact of the TA is to assist Bahir Al Kamal in enabling resource-efficient approaches in Iraq to address demand planning & supplier partnership while creating business and employment opportunities for Iraqis
