The purpose of the Communication Coordinator position is to manage and coordinate the work of the Media & Communication unit. The Coordinator will be assisting the program manager in putting in place the media strategy, managing media relations, social media platforms, editorial content (articles, features, news stories, blogs), content production for internal and external communication, in addition to other relevant outreach activities nationally and regionally.

The Communication Coordinator will ensure that AFE produces strong, well-designed communications products that represent the organization’s values and are uniformly aligned with AFE’s branding and communication guidelines. In addition, the Media and Communication Coordinator will oversee content for external communications (success stories, brochures, newsletters, editorials, web-articles etc.). Fluency in English, French and Arabic plus editorial/writing skills are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 STRATEGY AND ENGAGEMENT

  • Collaborate with AFE’s Program Managers to define a communication strategy to engage key target audiences and stay up to date with all program activities and development plans.
  • Develop, oversee, and implement AFE’s communication strategy.
  • Guide and provide advice on appropriate media and communications solutions.
  • Lead role in media, lobby, and communication on issues related to programs through Media contacts and coordination of allies.
  • Help in the development and maintain a brand identity for AFE.
  • Write and edit all communications.
  • Coordinate internal translations and proofread them.
  • Regularly update all platforms with recent news, AFE’s activities, relevant issues, interesting facts, and AFE’s publications
  • Promote AFE’s gender-related values through the full range of available media channels and Ensure all activities are gender sensitive and follow AFE’s values.
  • Work internally with the different program teams and with AFE’s partners to ensure high quality communication products.
  • Represent AFE at specific meetings and at media events when requested by the Head of Program.
  • Work closely with the team members to develop visibility materials.
  • Create and maintain connections between AFE and media outlets and influencers.
  • Oversee the production of compelling reports, infographics, and other material for donors.
  • Train AFE’s collaborators and partners on effective communication strategies, including photography and storytelling, ensuring each program has a champion to capture and share relevant information.

 PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Oversee the production of compelling reports, infographics, and other material for donors.
  • Create and manage content for website and social media accounts.
  • Design and produce all communication and visibility materials both in-house and outsourced.
  • Review and monitor all communications products produced by program teams.
  • Develop materials for specific program campaigns or identities, to help advance programmatic goals such as training material or toolkits, etc.
  • Build and maintain a database of all visual materials produced by AFE such as photos, videos, infographics, logos etc.
  • Ensure all visual materials produced follow AFE’s brand identity and standards.
  • Help AFE’s collaborators, partners, and beneficiaries where appropriate to prepare for media interviews ensuring that all agreed guidelines and protocol are observed.
  • Write and/or support the writing of strong, compelling stories; Produce relevant media pieces.
  • Organize workshops and training for Journalists and media professionals, including producing the content.
  • Collaborate with other international organizations on mass advocacy campaigns.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the program manager in managing the communication team, ensuring they have a development plan, supporting them in capacity building, and implementing the performance appraisal process as per AFE’s guidelines.
  • Supporting in recruitment efforts and weighing in on compensation and benefits package.
  • Oversee two to three direct reports and manage GAB activities as assigned to the team members.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in Marketing, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, or related discipline, including gender and development.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working for an NGO is a must and in project management.
  • Exceptional writing skills in both Arabic, French and English languages.
  • Knowledge and skills in computer usage including word, excel, power point, and social media.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current global and regional health, LGBT, human rights, and gender issues.  
  • Proven ability to manage a team effectively, including remote teams.
