AMURT’s mission is to help improve the quality of life for the poor and disadvantaged people of the world, and those affected by calamity and conflict. It aims to assist individuals and communities to secure life’s necessities and to gain greater social and economic fulfillment, while honoring individuals’ customs, language, and religious beliefs.
AMURT Lebanon registered in 2012 as an independent charitable organization and is affiliated with the AMURT Global Network, headquartered in Washington, USA.
Since 2012, AMURT has been addressing the Syrian crisis and its effects, as well as hardships the Lebanese community is experiencing. Its programs focus on diverse education initiatives and psychosocial support yet have ranged from disaster relief and emergency response, to, child protection, social stability and livelihoods.
Homework Support Teacher
Due to the deteriorating socioeconomic situation in Lebanon in addition to the coronavirus pandemic, over 500,000 children in Lebanon have been out of school for over a year.
At several locations in upper Chouf, AMURT in partnership with Orienthelfer Germany is launching a cycle of community-based homework support for children in primary grades. The sessions are led by volunteers, mostly parents of students themselves, that open their homes for a small study group.
The main tasks & Responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Support and train the community-based HW Support Volunteers to implement qualitative educational support in accordance with the needs and abilities of the children
- Act as a main point of contact for the HW Support Volunteers and create a supportive and motivating working environment
- Conduct weekly monitoring & support visits to homework support groups located in the Syrian refugee community.
- Oversee files prepared by the HW Support Volunteers for each child; monitor their educational and developmental progress.
- Discuss in collaboration with the volunteers extra supportive actions when needed
- Enhance the volunteers’ capacities to deal with difficult situations more confidently as well as coordinate with PSS Team to arrange for them to provide HW volunteers with needed psychosocial knowledge and skills through trainings and follow-up
- Encourage the volunteers to build networks and share their resources, knowledge and multiple instructional strategies
- Monitor children’s attendance and report absences that require follow-up by the HW Support Volunteers
- Keep an ongoing positive communication with the parents
- Meet with and provide feedback to the Head Teacher and when needed to the PSS Team and M&E Officer
- Safely identify and refer children to appropriate services through Head Teacher and PSS Team
- Follow AMURT Lebanon’s Child Protection Policies and Do No Harm Policies
- Attend weekly and monthly meetings with other team members
- Others as required and agreed upon with the Head Teacher
Skills:
- Oral and written communication skill in Arabic and English
- Typing skills in Arabic and English
- Demonstrated capacity to innovate and think creatively
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal capabilities

In addition to the direct daily reporting to the Head of Education, the HW Support Teacher will collaborate with: Pedagogical Trainer, PSS Team, M&E Officer, Project Officer, Outreach Officers, and Project Coordinator.
