Training of Trainers (TOT) Workshop for Amel Association team on professional counseling for the Livelihood project aiming to increase employability of vulnerable youths
Background
For more than one year, Lebanon has been experiencing compounded crises, resulting in increasing the vulnerability of the residents. Indeed, around 55% of the Lebanese population is living below the poverty line (World Bank, 2021) and since July 2020, the rate of the Lebanese Pound is highly unstable, considering the black-market rate, and the Lebanese Lira faced over 450% devaluation in one year (UNICEF, 2020). In addition, the COVID 19 pandemic has affected the livelihood conditions of refugees and Lebanese host communities.
This project aims to address the dire socio-economic situation faced by vulnerable youths in Lebanon (15 to 26 years old, different backgrounds and nationalities, female and male). In addition to the current economic, financial and humanitarian crisis the country is facing since 2019, the limited number of jobs created by the Lebanese economy has several rooted causes: the lack of relevant skills among the youths, a training and university curricula offer not adapted to the needs of the local labor market.
The main objective of this project is to increase the employability of vulnerable youths in BML and South Lebanon.
The two outcomes of the project are:
- Vulnerable youth in BML and South Lebanon are better equipped to access higher education
- Vulnerable youth in BML and South Lebanon have increased employability skills
The TOR for this assignment will focus on the second outcome.
Scope of work
The objectives of the assignment are twofold:
- Develop a detailed curriculum or trainers’ guide for the professional counselling workshop. The professional counselor is expected to draft a curriculum covering all the subjects that help youths with major and high education choice, career planning, decision-making process, implementation of career choice. This should be also adapted to the economic sectors chosen by the project’s team and the business consultant
- Provide a training of trainers so that the team is able to better understand youths’ thinking, skills, and interests in terms of career’s choice
- Write and develop a checklist to assist the team in analyzing the beneficiaries' strengths and limitations and leading them to the most appropriate economic sector and TVET
At the end of the career counselling workshop the team should:
- Gain an understanding of how to conduct a professional counseling session with beneficiaries (taking into consideration that the way of approach might be in person or over the phone)
- Demonstrate a thorough awareness of the career exploration process, as well as how beneficiaries' abilities and interests align with a certain major or career pathway
- Be able to conduct a skills assessment in order to engage the beneficiaries with the right job market
- Examine the job tasks, job prospects, and resources that are relevant to the considered jobs markets or economic sectors (selected according to the value chain assessment)
- Discuss the types of professional and technical skills needed for a future career opportunity to enable these skills to be demonstrated outside the classroom
- Be able to support youth in search of employment (where and how to look for job opportunities)
Qualifications of the professional counselor
- Good understanding of the livelihood sector in Lebanon from a humanitarian and local development perspective
- Experience in conducting workshop in professional and career counselling
- Experience in drafting a check-list for job orientation assessment
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent writing skills
Required Deliverables
- Trainer’s training guide/curriculum (manual) for the professional counselling workshop
- Providing a 2-days training of trainers (TOT) to Amel Association team
- Providing a check-list evaluation for the team to undertake in assisting the beneficiaries in selecting the appropriate TVET.
