Scope of work:

This study will focus on refugees and vulnerable members of the host community both in Tripoli and the Bekaa. The location were chosen in order to further understand the difference in decision making processes and socio-economic conditions between rural and urban areas, where both refugees and Lebanese reside. In addition to that, those areas are amongst the most vulnerable areas in country, and conclusions and recommendations can be built upon for advocacy and programming.

Qualifications:

We aim at hiring qualified and experienced research consultant(s) to conduct this research. Consultants will have 5+ years of experience in conducting field research around the topics of refugees, migration, protection, and social security. They are expected to develop a detailed methodology, review available literature, collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and writing up the report.

Research questions:

The research will be guided by the following preliminary research questions and themes:

  • What motivates migration/how is the economic situation in both countries affecting migrations?
  • What are people resorting to, what type of access do people have? (by sea, crossing the borders)
  • What are the risks? How are people mitigating them?
  • What are programmatic recommendations? How can we supports?
  • Are refugees considering returns (in light of recent political development in Syria)?

Methodology:

  • Desk review: migrations, risks, motives, news, articles
  • KIs: past survivors, port operators, refugees, Lebanese
  • Surveys about intentions of returns/migration, motives, and analysis vis-à-vis demographic indicators
