Al Midan is looking for an experienced Education officer who is experienced in the field to join their team. The Education Officer will play a key role in implementing education programs, ensuring that they are of high quality, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of children and communities in crisis.

 

To address the growing needs of children and youth in Lebanon, AL Midan is implementing the Makani project, utilizing a Multi-Service Community Centre (MSCC) approach across 3 community centers in the North (T5 area). This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive package of integrated services targeting marginalized and vulnerable children and youth aged 0-18 years, as well as their caregivers. The MSCCs serve as safe spaces offering a variety of programs, including education, child protection, early childhood development (ECD), life skills, and youth engagement support, all through a community-based approach. The goal is to reach both Syrian and Lebanese vulnerable children in host communities, as well as collective and informal settlements.

 

Al Midan NGO has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries. Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, always (both during work hours and outside work hours).  Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training. All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Implementation:
    • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of education programs targeting vulnerable populations
    • Ensure educational activities are delivered effectively, efficiently, and within deadlines.
    • Supervise and provide guidance to education staff and volunteers.
  2. Curriculum Development and Support:
    • Assist in the development, adaptation, and delivery of educational content and materials.
    • Provide technical support and capacity building for teachers and facilitators on teaching methodologies, child protection, and inclusive education.
    • Adapt learning materials to meet the specific needs of the target group, including children with disabilities or language barriers.
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Collect data and feedback on program performance to assess the impact of educational activities.
    • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities, ensuring data is captured and analyzed.
    • Prepare regular reports on program progress, highlighting achievements and challenges.
  4. Community Engagement:
    • Engage with local communities, schools, and other stakeholders to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of the education programs.
    • Foster partnerships with local authorities, schools, and other NGOs to coordinate efforts and share resources.
    • Provide support to parents and caregivers to enhance community involvement in children's education.
  5. Child Protection and Safeguarding:
    • Ensure the education program adheres to child protection and safeguarding policies, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
    • Address any child protection concerns in coordination with other staff and local authorities.
  6. Capacity Building and Training:
    • Design and deliver training sessions for teachers, school staff, and community leaders to improve educational practices and skills.
    • Provide continuous professional development support for education staff.
  7. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare and submit timely progress reports, project documentation, and updates to senior management and donors.
    • Maintain accurate records of educational activities, including attendance, outcomes, and feedback.

Key Requirements:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an education-related role, ideally with an NGO or in an international development context.
    • Experience in working with vulnerable populations, particularly refugees, displaced children, or marginalized communities.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of the Lebanese education system and challenges faced by vulnerable groups in accessing education.
    • Knowledge of inclusive education, child protection, and gender-sensitive programming.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, communities, and stakeholders.
    • Fluency in Arabic and English (spoken and written).
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
