ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in development and emergency settings.

As part of its current restructuring process in alignment with its Three-Years Country Plan (2023/2025), ABAAD is recruiting specialists for its new Model Centers for multidisciplinary Holistic Care to Combat GBV in Lebanon in different regions around the country.

 

JOB TITLE: Community Social Worker

JOB PURPOSE:

The Community Social Worker will be responsible for working within communities, conducting outreach activities, coordinating with local stakeholders, and ensuring buy-in of the local population. They will also conduct awareness-raising on GBV core concepts, protection, prevention, response and self-protection for children adolescents, women and men within the mobile setting. The position holder will be based in the ABAAD center and will be roving to different areas, working closely with community actors, such as the municipalities, local organizations, community centers and conduct regular visits to communities and mainly informal settlements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct information and awareness sessions with children, adolescents, women and men in the community to disseminate information about available services and key protection concerns.
  • Identify and assess communities to be engaged in the Model Center activities.
  • Maintain regular contact with community focal points and community outreach volunteers.
  • Identify and engage key “gatekeepers” and active members within the community to ensure access of ABAAD teams and formation of community groups.
  • Identify community gateways and mobile Model centers. Identify and recruit community volunteers amongst the refugee and host communities. Support community volunteers and women , men, boys’ and girls’ community groups in developing strategies and action plans to address and/or mitigate risks
  • Facilitate referral of identified needs to humanitarian organizations and other service providers, ensuring follow up and feedback to the community;
  • In close collaboration with community volunteers and community groups conduct regular safety audits to identify risks facing -community members within their community;
  • Conduct trainings of community group volunteers and key gatekeepers;
  • Organize regular planning and reporting meetings with community groups and gather feedback on community activities on a regular basis;
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and 3-month work plans in a timely manner and incorporate approval of line manager feedback.
  • Participate in weekly internal meetings to ensure adherence to standards of appropriate case management, as well as community-based approach and psychosocial activities;
  • Regularly document outreach and community activities using technical tools;  
  • Gather feedback at the community level regarding ABAAD Model centers program and share information with line manager;
  • As requested, undertake/participate in liaison, coordination, and information sharing activities with local CBOs and local key stakeholders, national NGOs, international organizations.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:

  • BA, Master or equivalent Degree in Social Work, Psychology or any related field;
  • Minimum three years of experience in a similar position;
  • Knowledge of GBV prevention and response & Child Protection core concepts and guidelines;
  • Experience of working in/with non-government organizations;
  • Experience in implementing international and national principles and standards related to working with women/ girls exposed to violence, their families, people with Special Needs/Disability, Juveniles, Refugees, Migrants and Marginalized Groups. 
  • Belief & adherence to ABAAD’s mission and vision;
  • Respect for ABAAD Code of Conduct and its PSEA Policy;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with GBV data collection system and safe and ethical guidelines.
  • Commitment to human rights, child protection and gender equality;
  • Flexible pro-active attitude;
  • Ability to work well as an individual and within a team;
  • Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment;
  • Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts;
  • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic, clear and concise reporting in English is strongly preferred. French is a plus;
  • Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
