World Vision Lebanon (WVL) is implementing a research project across Beirut, Bekaa, and South Lebanon to better understand the dynamics of food security and humanitarian aid access among affected populations.
To support the effective implementation of this research, WVL seeks to recruit a team of casual workers to provide flexible, field-based assistance in data collection, transcription, translation, coordination, and participant engagement. The role is essential for ensuring high-quality and ethical research, particularly in contexts involving vulnerable individuals and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection
- attend and actively participate in mandatory training sessions on ethical considerations, and data collection protocols
- Administer surveys and conduct structured and semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with research participants, adhering to ethical standards and safeguarding protocols.
- Ensure informed consent is obtained prior to participation.
Transcription and Translation
- Take clear written notes or transcribe audio recordings from Arabic into clear, accurate written format (Arabic and/or English as needed).
- Translate interview and FGD transcripts into English or Arabic, maintaining nuance and fidelity to the original meaning.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare daily field notes and summaries of interviews/FGDs.
- Report any challenges, incidents, or deviations from protocols to the research team in a timely manner.
On-site Coordination
- Coordinate logistics for interviews and FGDs, including participant scheduling.
- Support communication with community members, local leaders, or partner organizations during fieldwork.
Participant Follow-up
- Conduct follow-up calls or visits (where necessary) to clarify data and ensure continued consent.
- Maintain respectful and culturally sensitive engagement with all participants throughout the process.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Undergraduate Degree
- Proven experience in fieldwork, qualitative research, MEAL, or similar data collection tasks in humanitarian or development settings.
- Good understanding of technology, including the use of tablets.
- Expertise in data entry, transcription, and maintaining records in written or electronic forms.
- Fluent in spoken and written Arabic; working knowledge of English is a strong asset (especially for transcription/translation).
- Valid driving license and access to a personal vehicle.
- Respect for cultural sensitivities and the ability to engage with beneficiaries with dignity.
- Active listening skills and the ability to respond to beneficiary inquiries professionally.
- Ability to gather information objectively and sensitively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse communities, including vulnerable populations.
- Familiarity with ethical research standards, including confidentiality, informed consent, and safeguarding (especially of children and youth).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines and in changing field environments.
- Previous work with NGOs or international organizations in Lebanon.
- Background in social sciences, public health, or humanitarian work.
- Human subjects research ethics certification (or willingness to complete prior to fieldwork).
