Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation.
In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis continues to generate political, social and economic pressure due to the war in Lebanon and keeps more than 1.5 million refugees in a situation of increasing vulnerability. In this environment of political, economic and social uncertainty, our teams have maintained their high levels of humanitarian response and aid to Lebanon. Likewise, our interventions have been maintained in the Bekaa and northern areas, as well as in the south of the country, with a special focus on working in partnership or in consortium with other organizations and on institutional strengthening of the relationship with both donors. institutional, such as with local authorities and entities.
Under the supervision of Food Security and Livelihoods Program Manager, the Agriculture Specialist is responsible for the daily technical planning, implementation, supervision, monitoring, managing resources and reporting of the field agriculture activities related to the support of farmers in post-conflict recovery, and for ensuring proper coordination with municipalities, other authorities, beneficiaries and related ACF departments. The position requires extensive field work and movement in South Lebanon (Tyre). S/He is expected to be resistant to stress, as s/he will be working in versatile environment.
Objective 1: Ensure timely and quality implementation of FSL Agriculture activities. (55%)
- Ensure timely implementation of activities defined by the Program Manager (input distribution, training, set up, maintenance, etc.).
- Eengage in the beneficiary and site selection process under the guidance of the Program Manager.
- Provide support to the Program Manager for the design of the activities, planning the activities according to the project’s expected development.
- Determine and update regularly the equipment needed for the activities.
- Elaborate appropriate questionnaires for technical assessments and surveys.
- Ensure regular monitoring of the activities by creating a predefined plan.
- Identify, Inform and document the anomalies and the challenges during the implementation phase of the program. Ensuring the proposition of solutions throughout the process.
- Conduct household visits, focus group discussions and key informant interviews at the request Program Manager.
- Apply the follow-up and supervision tools of the project.
- Propose solutions and improvements concerning the project’s progress, according to activity results.
- Contribute to the training of the project beneficiaries.
- Conduct assessments and key informative interviews with external stakeholders, Municipalities, Farmers, cooperatives.
- Support in building the bill of quantities BOQs in coordination with the farmers/Cooperatives to create a clear plan for their needs related to their assets
Objective 2: Stakeholder Coordination. (20%)
- Coordinate activities and sensitize defined external stakeholders, explaining the project’s activities and objectives.
- Coordinate with local authorities and ensure continuous communication regarding the implementation of work in order to ensure flawless progress of activities.
- Act as a link between the Organization and the stakeholders. Support in building relationships between Action Against Hunger, local authorities, municipalities, and communities.
- Ensure proper follow up with predesignated external stakeholders for the selection of sites, beneficiaries and modality of work.
Objective 3: Data Collection and Reporting. (25%)
- Collect, file, document, and report data related to implementation.
- Regularly provide verbal and written progress reports to the Program Manager.
- Report possible problems or conflicts during the activities.
- Report on the use of project tools and suggestion of possible improvements.
- Analyze and build on experiences in order to share the lessons learnt.
- Note out and report any changes in the socio-economic and agricultural conditions in the intervention area.
Objective 4: Security
- Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and performs the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
- Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan.
Objective 5: Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger
- Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
- Support any activity that helps to reach our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
Objective 6: Gender & Safeguarding
- Promote safe and equitable environments, through knowledge and application of the protocol against harassment and gender policy.
- Knowledge and compliance with safeguarding policy.
Training/ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or any related field.
Technical specific knowledge: Food security and livelihoods, agriculture, Cash programmes specifically Cash-for-work. Experience in Agriculture is a plus.
Previous experience: 1-year experience working in humanitarian and development organization. Experience in Agriculture is a plus.

Languages: Native Arabic and English compulsory
IT and specific systems: Good skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
