I. INTRODUCTION

The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is a Lebanese NGO registered at the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities under no. 1186 on 18 June 2014 that aims to expand, manage, and protect Lebanon’s forests and landscapes through a community-based approach. We work on building resilient communities to environmental threats, increasing environmental awareness and education, advocating for forest conservation, and advancing research in the forestry field.

II. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Field Officer-South Lebanon at the Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) is responsible for the implementation of project activities and coordinating the execution of field work in the targeted region. S/he applies Field Officer principles and procedures, provides accurate and timely information to LRI Project Manager and LRI Project Director.

The Field Officer – South Lebanon is expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Project Coordination:
  • Coordinate the implementation of project activities in the South Lebanon region, including South and Nabatieh governorates, specifically but not exclusively Jmeijmeh, Haddatha and Qlaiaa villages.
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with local municipalities, authorities, and other relevant public administrative organizations to facilitate the smooth execution of activities.
  1. Community Engagement:
  • Conduct outreach to recruit eligible workers for Cash-for-Work (CfW) project activities, with a focus on inclusive participation, including agricultural workers, women, and people with disabilities.
  • Engage workers effectively, ensuring proper understanding of project objectives and roles.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Conduct daily site visits to monitor ongoing activities and ensure adherence to project standards.
  • Prepare and submit daily and weekly progress reports to the LRI Project Manager.
  • Capture and document field conditions by taking photographs before, during, and after activities.
  1. Technical and Administrative Support:
  • Collect field data and technical information by conducting necessary surveys.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining administrative documents, including ensuring appropriate signatures on Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).
  • Support in filling workers’ timesheets and ensuring accurate submission of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) forms.
  1. Worker Supervision and Communication:
  • Supervise hired workers on-site and ensure their compliance with project protocols and instructions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for communicating instructions and major decisions from the LRI team to field workers.
  1. Additional Support:
  • Assist with any other project-related activities as needed, whether on-site or in the office, to ensure successful project outcomes.

III. REQUIREMENTS

The Field Officer should possess the following competencies, skills, and experience:

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, environmental science, forestry, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fieldwork, community engagement, or project implementation, preferably in the South Lebanon region.
  • Previous experience working with municipalities, local authorities, or community-based organizations is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including workers, local authorities, and project teams.
  • Proficiency in data collection, reporting, and basic administrative tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work inclusively with underrepresented groups.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Knowledge of basic agricultural or reforestation practices.
  • Familiarity with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) tools and procedures is a plus.
  • Basic photography skills to document field activities (e.g., taking before-and-after site pictures).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Personal Attributes:

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and adaptable to challenging field conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude in addressing project challenges.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to the targeted region of South Lebanon.
  • Willingness to conduct daily field visits and work in diverse environmental conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license is a must.
