Al Midan is looking for an experienced Youth Officer who is experienced in the field.

The Makani Center is a community hub that integrates education, protection, and empowerment services for vulnerable children and youth in the Zgharta region. The center provides a safe space for learning, recreational activities, life skills training, and psychosocial support, fostering a holistic approach to youth development.

The Youth Officer will play a key role in designing and implementing youth-oriented programs at the Makani Center. The role focuses on empowering youth, enhancing their skills, and ensuring their active participation in community-building initiatives. The officer will work closely with local stakeholders, partner organizations, and the youth themselves to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment.

Al Midan NGO has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries. Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, always (both during work hours and outside work hours).  Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training. All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Program Implementation:
    • Develop and implement tailored programs and activities for youth, focusing on education, life skills, leadership, and community engagement.
    • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and events that address the specific needs of youth.
  2. Youth Engagement:
    • Act as a mentor and advocate for youth, fostering a sense of belonging and self-confidence.
    • Create mechanisms for youth feedback to ensure their needs and voices shape programming.
  3. Community Coordination:
    • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to ensure effective collaboration.
    • Organize outreach efforts to increase youth participation and awareness of center activities.
  4. Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Track program attendance, participation, and outcomes.
    • Prepare regular progress reports and document success stories for stakeholders and donors.
  5. Protection and Well-being:
    • Promote a safe and inclusive environment in all center activities, adhering to child protection and safeguarding policies.
    • Identify and refer youth in need of additional support to appropriate services.
  6. Innovation and Development:
    • Introduce creative and innovative approaches to youth programming, incorporating arts, sports, and technology.
    • Stay informed on best practices and trends in youth empowerment and development.

Professional Standards:

All Al Midan staff are required to adhere to the Al Midan policies and practices with respect to child protection minimum standards, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with youth in a community or educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to design and implement youth programs and activities.
  • Familiarity with child protection and safeguarding principles.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Fluency in Arabic is required; English is an asset.
  • Experience working in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Skills in facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution.
