Al Midan is looking for an experienced CP Officer who is experienced in the field.
The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for ensuring that children are protected from all forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The role involves implementing and overseeing child protection programs, providing case management support, and advocating for child rights in line with national and international standards.
To address the growing needs of children and youth in Lebanon, AL Midan is implementing the Makani project, utilizing a Multi-Service Community Centre (MSCC) approach across 3 community centers in the North (T5 area). This initiative aims to provide a comprehensive package of integrated services targeting marginalized and vulnerable children and youth aged 0-18 years, as well as their caregivers. The MSCCs serve as safe spaces offering a variety of programs, including education, child protection, early childhood development (ECD), life skills, and youth engagement support, all through a community-based approach. The goal is to reach both Syrian and Lebanese vulnerable children in host communities, as well as collective and informal settlements.
Al Midan NGO has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries. Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, always (both during work hours and outside work hours). Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training. All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.

Major Responsibilities:
- Child Protection Program Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and monitor child protection programs and activities in line with organizational policies, national child protection laws, and international standards.
- Ensure that child protection is integrated into all aspects of the NGO’s programs and that staff are trained on safeguarding policies and practices.
- Identify and assess the needs of children at risk, particularly in emergency or crisis situations, and provide appropriate interventions.
- Case Management and Support:
- Provide direct case management services to children in need of protection, including those who are victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or violence.
- Conduct case assessments, create child protection plans, and refer children to appropriate services such as legal aid, healthcare, or psychosocial support.
- Ensure regular follow-up on cases, providing continued support to children and families as needed.
- Training and Capacity Building:
- Provide training and capacity-building sessions for staff, volunteers, and community partners on child protection principles, safeguarding, and child rights.
- Raise awareness about child protection among local communities, parents, and caregivers, focusing on prevention of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Develop and distribute educational materials on child protection and safe practices for families and community leaders.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor the safety and well-being of children involved in NGO programs, ensuring that any concerns are promptly addressed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files and records, ensuring confidentiality and data protection in line with organizational guidelines.
- Prepare regular reports on child protection activities, progress, and challenges, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Emergency Response and Crisis Intervention:
- Respond to child protection concerns in emergency situations, such as natural disasters or displacement, by providing immediate interventions and support.
- Ensure the identification and protection of unaccompanied or separated children in emergencies and work on their reunification or alternative care arrangements.
- Psychosocial Support and Counseling:
- Provide or coordinate psychosocial support services for children, helping them recover from trauma and providing safe spaces for emotional expression.
- Refer children and families to mental health professionals or specialized counseling services when necessary.
- Policy Development and Compliance:
- Ensure that all child protection activities are compliant with the NGO’s child protection policy, as well as national child protection laws and international conventions such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
- Regularly review and update the NGO’s child protection policies and procedures, ensuring that they remain current and effective in safeguarding children.

All Al Midan staff are required to adhere to the Al Midan policies and practices with respect to child protection minimum standards, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
Job Requirements:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in child protection, social work, or a related field, particularly within an NGO or humanitarian setting.
- Experience working with vulnerable children, including those affected by conflict, displacement, or abuse, is highly desirable.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of child protection issues, child rights, and international standards for child safeguarding (e.g., UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, Inter-Agency Working Group on Child Protection).
- Experience in case management, including assessment, intervention, and follow-up.
- Ability to work with children in sensitive situations, showing empathy and understanding of their needs.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
- Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) is required. Proficiency in English is a plus.
- Strong organizational and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
- Other Requirements:
- Commitment to child protection and the principles of non-discrimination and inclusion.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing child protection risks and concerns.
- The role require occasional travel to field sites to provide on- site support.
