The primary by-product from the smoked salmon production—resulting from cleaning, deboning, and smoking—is fish leftovers. Delifraicheur has identified an opportunity to repurpose these leftovers into a valuable product for the highly profitable pet food industry. The goal is to transform this waste into high-quality pet food
Objective
The objective of this consultancy is to:
- Design a new waste conversion line capable of transforming salmon by-products into pet food or animal feed.
- Identify processes suitable for optimal conversion and meeting relevant market and regulatory standards.
- Oversee the procurement of equipment, tools, and materials for the new production line.
- Ensure the process is environmentally sustainable, cost-effective, and meets safety and quality standards.
Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Design Phase
- Assess the existing waste management practices in the factory.
- Identify the types and volume of waste available for conversion.
- Design a new waste processing line (including equipment layout and process flow).
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulations for pet food and animal feed production.
- Identify opportunities for energy and water efficiency.
- Process Identification
- Conduct research to identify suitable transformation technologies (e.g., drying, extrusion, hydrolysis).
- Recommend suitable formulations and processes for animal feed and pet food production.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, and ISO 22000).
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process parameters for the new line.
- Procurement Management
- Identify and recommend appropriate equipment and suppliers for the new line.
- Develop technical specifications and procurement documentation for tendering.
- Assist in evaluating bids and selecting vendors.
- Ensure that procurement aligns with budgetary constraints and timelines.
- Implementation and Reporting
- Oversee the installation of equipment and commissioning of the new line.
- Provide technical support during the initial production runs.
- Conduct training sessions for staff on the new processes.
- Submit progress reports and a final completion report.
Deliverables
- Deliverable 1: Process Design Report – including waste assessment, recommended technologies, and flow diagrams.
- Deliverable 2: Procurement Plan and Equipment Specifications.
- Deliverable 3: Training Materials and SOPs for the new processes.
Qualifications
The selected consultant or consulting firm must have the following qualifications:
- At least 5-7 years of experience in designing food or animal feed processing lines.
- Proven expertise in waste valorization and by-product management.
- Knowledge of relevant pet food and animal feed regulations (e.g., AAFCO, EU feed laws).
- Familiarity with procurement processes and vendor management.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training and provide hands-on support.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Professionalism and Ethics: Adherence to professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical conduct
- Company profile highlighting relevant qualifications and experience
- Use of tools and methods to finalize the consultancy mission with the support of the beneficiary
- Applications to this proposal can be from independent trainers/consultants, Corporate or Agency
How to apply
The selected Consultant is expected to start his/her activities at the soonest after selection, and the contract’s duration is 3 months, covering a minimum of 30 hours, with a budget of up to 4,730 Euro.
Candidates should submit the following documents:
- Technical (maximum two pages) describing the methodology to conduct the work based on the content suggested in the section: “Scope of Work, and Deliverables” elaborating it further.
- Profile and project references (maximum two pages): A brief explanation of the consultant(s) background should be submitted (CVs shall be included as an annex) along with project references on the topic.
- Financial Proposal describing the expected remuneration divided as per the deliverables listed above and the proposed period of the intervention.
