Project Description:
Empowering Local Systems in Agriculture (ELSA) is a 5-year project funded by USAID under Farmer-to-Farmer Leader Award. ELSA aims to establish sustainable local systems that provide affordable and consistently available agricultural inputs and create inclusive market channels in the agricultural sector. To achieve this, ELSA will build implementing partners’ capacity and provide direct technical assistance (TA) to input suppliers to improve input distribution and agribusinesses' market access. Venture37 will supplement this TA with co-investment grants for selected agribusinesses to reduce the risk of their investments.
Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist executes ELSA’s public and industry stakeholder outreach, communications, and marking and branding activities. The Communications Specialist prepares written stories, communication pieces, and social media posts featuring successes and learnings about ELSA. The communications pieces will be distributed to a variety of outlets including media and targeted, stakeholder-focused events to communicate results, share project knowledge with the public and private sectors and to support the Communicate, Learn, and Adapt activities and performance indicators. This position will make extensive use of written materials, photos, graphics, and other visual story-telling techniques while integrating technical content and data from the MEL system. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.
Primary Responsibilities:
The main duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Collaborate with various program team members (technical, MEL, grants) to develop communications materials and/or promotional materials for the program to articulate ongoing and past successes to varying audiences (e.g. clients, donors, private sector stakeholder, NGOs, CSOs, etc.).
- Develop program infographics, factsheets, one pagers, blog posts, success stories, press releases, PowerPoint presentations, case studies, etc.
- Ensure all developed communications materials are in alignment with the program’s branding and marking plan aligned with USAID requirements.
- Interview program partners, beneficiaries, stakeholders, staff, volunteers and other consultants to create and develop stories, partner profiles, briefs and updates about activities as part of “telling the story of ELSA”.
- Lead and execute event planning and training facilitation for stakeholders and project team in Lebanon.
- Develop scopes of work and content for short videos showcasing project impacts and activities; oversee contracted videographers and photographers.
- Develop and implement Outreach Plans for ELSA including marking and branding and CLA, and engage with the audience through social media, press releases, press conferences, trade shows like HORECA, and radio interviews.
- Review and approve all communications content produced by ELSA’s implementing partners ensuring adherence to USAID branding guidelines.
- Work closely with USAID Lebanon’s communication focal point to generate communication story lines and execute communication projects
- Present thought pieces at communication open house and project leaders meeting.
- Train and support communication staff at ELSA’s implementing partners, to follow USAID branding and marking guidelines.
- Communicate program impact, results, and CLA activities to guide future programming and attract interest for future support.
- Showcase ELSA activity on “F2F” program fact sheet and post success stories and other publications through Land O’Lakes Inc.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Local candidates with the minimum qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, journalism, multimedia or any related field.
- At least six (6) years of professional experience in creative communications. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English
- Excellent writing skills for clear and concise written products aimed at industry and the general public.
- Experience with setting up and managing social media platforms and content.
- Experience with event planning, group meeting facilitation, and management of display content at conference-style events.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Familiarity in USAID's policies and procedures of branding is preferred.
