Position Title: Project Officer (Protection)

Duty station: Kobayat, Akkar, Lebanon;

Reporting to: Project Manager

Starting date: December 2024/January 2025 (18 months’ contract)

WORKING CONTEXT

WeWorld-GVC has been working in Lebanon since 2006 and is now supporting vulnerable populations through emergency WASH, shelter, basic assistance interventions as well as Water Governance and Local Economic Development programs aiming at increasing the resilience of the concerned communities, in the Beqaa Valley and Akkar. Within the framework of the project “ANA KAMEN (Phase 2): inclusive and quality education in 8 public schools in the Governorate of Akkar” funded by AICS (The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation), targeting public schools in Wadi Khaled, Jabal Akroum, Joumeh, Machha, and Muhammara, WeWorld-GVC seeks to recruit a Project Officer/Protection.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field activities

  • Taking into consideration the emergency situation and its priorities in terms of Protection and Protection in Emergency, support the PM in designing the Protection and Disability Inclusion activities foreseen by the project by adhering to internal and national SOPs and guidelines;
  • Support WW and its partners in the implementation of the Protection and Disability Inclusion activities both inside and outside schools’ premises (Distribution of MH kits and hygiene material to schools; organization of awareness raising sessions about Menstrual Hygiene Management in collaboration with the Hygiene Expert, organization of recreational activities within the targeted communities to promote inclusion and social cohesion in the area; establishment of referral mechanism from schools to MEHE);
  • Conduct field assessments and data collection activities, ensuring the reliability of the collected information, and guaranteeing a dignifying and equitable relationship with the interviewees;
  • Conduct awareness sessions with stakeholders and beneficiaries, providing any information relevant to the project (ex. Specific needs identified in each school in terms of educational equipment);
  • Liaise regularly with community leaders and beneficiaries to collect information, facilitate coordination, and mitigate/solve disputes whenever needed;
  • Monitor project activities, progress, and outcomes, taking into consideration the preparation of timely project reports and documentation;
  • Ensure the establishment and functioning of a strong referral system for child protection and GBV cases, connecting beneficiaries with appropriate services and support.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Cooperate and coordinate with other WW-GVC personnel and departments;
  • Maintain good working relations with beneficiaries, contractors, and all stakeholders involved in the project;
  • Coordination with schools’ principals and school staff, coordination with Municipality members and other key stakeholders to ensure the correct implementation of the activities and disseminate the project’s information;
  • Report to the line manager any issues which may have a direct impact on the implementation of the project, on the beneficiaries’ safety, or on WW-GVC’s activities in the area;
  • Represent WW-GVC appropriately at all times to the community, other NGOs, and institutional partners;
  • Ensure maximum visibility of WW-GVC’s actions amongst the beneficiary communities;
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports of the conducted Protection activities and ensure that all the project documentation (attendance sheets, distribution lists, MOU, etc.) is properly filled, updated, and classified;
  • Any other task not here listed and necessary to the project and the mission;
  • In case of emergencies, and based on prior coordination with the line manager, ensure availability during weekends and public holidays, with respect to the Lebanese Labour Law.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Development, International Studies, Humanitarian Affair or a related field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3-year experience with international NGOs or equivalent in the field of protection.
  •  Demonstrated experience working with government counterparts, international organizations, and development partners.
  • Previous experience in Akkar, or rural areas in Lebanon.

Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of the protection sector in Lebanon;
  • Ability to develop innovative approaches in terms of strategic planning;
  • Strong interpersonal, staff management, and leadership skills;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently;
  • Good communication skills with beneficiaries and communities;
  • Flexibility, commitment, and ability to work in stressful circumstances;
  • Capacity to work autonomously respecting deadlines;
  • Integrity in line with the NGO values and ethical standards;
  • Cultural, gender, religion, and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Languages: Arabic (Native speaker) and English (fluent written and spoken).

Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Other: Valid driving license and capacity of autonomous deploymen
