INTERSOS is an International NGO that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. Established in 1992 with support from the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, its actions are based on the values of solidarity, justice, human dignity, equal rights and opportunities for all people and respect for diversity and coexistence, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable and the unprotected.

INTERSOS identifies with the core values of CONCORD, the European Confederation of NGOs; it adheres to international codes of conduct for humanitarian organizations and the values and principles expressed within those codes. INTERSOS is recognized by the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the principal UN agencies; it is privileged to hold an advisory status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

INTERSOS is an independent association which, through its own humanitarian operators, intervenes to effectively answer the needs of people in serious crises situations, mainly in the world's poorest regions, who are suffering, deprived of rights, dignity and essentials goods. It maintains a flexible operating structure. The head office in Italy coordinates, supports and monitors the planned activities in the countries of intervention carried out by decentralized offices.

TENTATIVE VACANCY

Job Title        : Protection Monitoring Reporting Officer

Reports to       : Line Manager Protection Manager & Technical Referent Protection Specialist

Duty Station    : North with regular field visits

Position Type  : Full Time

 

Job Purpose:

The Protection Monitoring Reporting Officer will be under the direct supervision of the base Protection Manager and work in very close coordination with the base Protection Monitoring Officer and country Protection Analysis Specialist. The Protection Monitoring Reporting Officer will be responsible for reporting and analysing data generated through protection monitoring assessments from INTERSOS and other NGO designated by UNHCR on area level, to develop weekly evidence-based report to inform donor, partners, programme development and Inter Agency and Protection Sector advocacy. The position will focus on producing analysis and reporting on IDPs protection monitoring.

Main tasks:

  • Process and analyse IDPs Protection Monitoring data on area level
  • Generate qualitative weekly IDPs Protection Monitoring report.
  • Attend meetings on Sub-National level.

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Analysis and Management

  • Responsible for conducting area protection data analysis to provide information highlighting gaps and major trends in Protection and report it to the area Protection Manager and Protection Analysis Specialist.
  • Responsible for regular protection analysis of qualitative and quantitative data gathered under UNHCR to support holistic and comparative monitoring and evidence gathering on the implementation and impact of activities, which can be fed back to project teams.

Reporting

  • Responsible for developing weekly statistical and analytical protection trend reports, that will feed into national monthly and, quarterly snapshots to highlight the IDPs protection needs, challenges.
  • Elaborate on trends and protection situation analysis to feed into monthly reports submitted to UNHCR.

Coordination and Networking

  • Participation in relevant regional meetings with the Protection Monitoring Reference Group, as requested by the Protection Analysis Specialist.
  • Coordinate with the other NGOs that are part of the IDP protection monitoring data collection.
  • Assist the Protection Analysis Specialist in presentations of findings to internal and external audiences, as required.

 

Education:

University degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, Law, Journalism, Psychology, Monitoring and Evaluation or other fields related to social development and/or humanitarian work.

 

Competencies: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Professional Competencies:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in the implementation of humanitarian protection activities within an international NGO.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project reporting and data management, preferably in the scope of protection, including the development of outcome and impact related indicators and/or data collection and analysis on such indicators.
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills in English for international audience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software analytics, information management and data visualisation tools including KOBO/Power BI and Google Data Studio.
  • Experience developing information products.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Sound and proven understanding of applying protection principles and standards to data collection and reporting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to humanitarian principles, gender equity and protection.
  • Strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
  • Driving license issued since more than 2 years.
