Overall Responsibility:

Media & Communication assistant is to be responsible for disseminating Islamic Relief Lebanon Office (IRL) information of general and newsworthy interest to the news media, public officials and the general public, and performs communications, operations, and tasks specific to the position.

 

The Media & communication assistant will work mainly on gathering and decrementing information internally between the various interest groups of IRL but he will also be informed and prepared to engage in a wider role of public and government interaction subject to the authorization of the Media & communication Officer/CD. In carrying out the detailed duties he/she will pay special attention to the sensitive nature of areas of the work that could have a direct effect on the security of the IR organization.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Under the guidance of the Programme Manager/ CD the MCA has to assist in the planning and implementation of IRL Media policy.
  2. To participate in the development of Islamic Relief’s Media strategy.
  3. To positively promote the aims and objectives of Islamic Relief among external audiences.
  4. Seek every reasonable opportunity to develop brand awareness of the IRL logo.
  5. To develop partnership relationships to involve IRL in Joint Media events.
  6. To network and strengthen IRL’s profile and reputation in a variety of settings, including developing stronger links with the general public.
  7. Responsible for developing, maintaining and updating the relevant pages of IRL’s website.
  8. To achieve coverage of IRL operations and projects& its concerns across a range of media and general public.
  9. Maintain and update all Media information from project activities.
  10. To promote IRL links with the media.
  11. To Contact journalists and other media actors in order to gain coverage for IRL operations, projects, campaign and other key news areas
  12. To respond promptly and efficiently to media enquiries within the IRL media policy in this regard.
  13. Under the guidance of the CD, speaks on behalf of IRL at meetings and conferences.
  14. To manage the IRL media database.
  15. To write, proof and edit articles for a range of media.
  16. To monitor and evaluate IRL coverage in the media.
  17. To plan specific media events, press conferences and photo calls to gain coverage for IRL issues.
  18. To occasionally address public meetings on IRL.
  19. To Participate in Public Presentations and Events.
  20. To ensure the provision of all visibility requirements in the field work.
  21. To manage the design & print promotional material such brochures, calendars etc.
  22. To manage the production of various promotional videos on behalf of IRL.
  23. To maintain the archives of news on IRL & video material.
  24. Input Media element to procurement policy where appropriate and Liaise with Major suppliers to ensure they are aware of the non-profit making status of the organization in order to secure minimum expenditure during procurement.
  25. Carry out such other related duties as may be assigned or required from time to time.

 

 

Role Focus During Emergency: Timely Coverage and Content Creation

  1. Visual Documentation:
    • Travel across Lebanon to document and report on the organization’s activities during both emergency and stable situations.
    • Maintain regular communication with local teams to stay updated on developments and areas needing coverage
    • Capture high-quality photos and videos of on-the-ground activities, including emergency response efforts, community interactions, and key events.
    • Ensure that all visual content is clear, impactful, and accurately represents the situation.
  2. Real-Time Reporting:
    • Provide timely updates to the Management team about ongoing activities and developments as they unfold.
    • Utilize mobile tools and platforms for quick dissemination of information and visual content.
  3. Case Study Development:
    • Collect stories and testimonials from individuals affected by the emergency to create compelling case studies.
    • Document specific instances of impact, showcasing the organization’s response and community resilience.
  4. Content Creation:
    • Edit and prepare visual and written content for social media, press releases, and internal reports.
    • Develop engaging narratives around the captured footage and photographs to highlight key themes and messages.
  5. Coordination with Teams:
    • Work closely with emergency response teams to understand priorities and areas of focus for documentation.
    • Attend briefings and debriefings to align content capture with strategic communication goals.
  6. Media Support:
    • Capture high-quality photos and videos of on-the-ground activities, including emergency response efforts, community interactions, and key events
    • Ensure that media Officer receive timely updates and relevant materials to enhance his/her reporting.
  7. Safety and Ethical Considerations:
    • Adhere to safety protocols while capturing content in potentially hazardous environments.
    • Ensure that all documentation respects the privacy and dignity of individuals affected by the emergency.
  8. Post-Event Reflection:
    • Compile and organize all captured content for review and future reference.
    • Participate in debriefs to assess the effectiveness of content capture and identify areas for improvement.
