Mission of the position: The goal of this post is ensuring quality care for children within SOS CVs. This includes specifically proper child admission, quality implementation of the family-based child care and re-integration within the biological families when in the best interest of the child. The role of the social worker is essential in securing support for children and their SOS Mothers. The social worker reports directly to the FLC Leader and works in close coordination with the National SOS Mothers Coordinator and the Village Pedagogical Committee.

 

 

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

  1. Ensure proper child admission process as per the best interest of the child
  1. Undertake the social investigation about each individual child case and ensure that all related information are collected properly through reliable sources
  2. Screen admission cases as per the National Admission Criteria
  3. Present the admission case to the National Pedagogical Committee and assume responsibility for any incorrect information
  4. Ensure proper integration for the new child within the village
  5. Follow-up the ODS Papers when needed
  6. Follow-up on issuing official papers for the admitted child

 

  1. Support and guide sos mothers candidates and sos mothers
  1. Visit the Candidates at home during the three-month probation period
  2. Organize the first visit of the Candidates to the village
  3. Facilitate the training of SOS Mothers Candidates as per their National Training Programme
  4. Provide support and guidance to SOS Mothers and Candidates
  5. Coordinate the on-going training of SOS Mothers  based on a regular needs-assessment
  6. Ensure proper documentation and updating of SOS Mothers and Candidates files including performance appraisals
  7. Coordinate SOS Candidates leaves and replacements

 

  1. Oversee proper processing of the child development project  through the village pedagogical committee
  1. Facilitate the planning for individual child development project at least once per year, progress review at least twice per year, and family review once per month
  2. Provide support to SOS Mothers to participate actively in the child development project
  3. Guide and support the children and engage them progressively in their child development project           

 

  4. Ensure proper follow up with the biological families

  1. Undertake (when appropriate) at least one visit/year (especially for those families expecting to host their children during vacations) to the biological families
  2. Ensure presence during the once/month visit of the biological families in the village
  3. Develop a rehabilitation project for biological families with possibilities for reintegration with monthly home visits to the family house of the child.
  4. Update the information concerning any changes in the status of the biological families.

 

  1. Understand the sos children’s village organisation
  1. Become familiar with the background, Philosophies, and clear with the Principles, Policies, and structures of the SOS Organisation;
  2. Understand the roles of the different SOS Staff/team members

 

  1. General
  1. Attends management meetings as a part of the Village management team, and assists with general managerial duties as required.
  2. Carries out all duties in an exemplary manner and provides a good role model for the children.
  3. Handles all SOS property appropriately, including the financial resources of the organisation.
  4. Performs any other reasonable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

 

 

Child Safeguarding (CS)

  • Responsible to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
  • Supports NPDM, CVPD and Programme units’ managers in organising relevant preventive actions addressing existing and possible CS risks as identified by the CS risk assessment.
  • Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the national CS focal person or any other member of the national CS team and/or to respective line manager.
