Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 191-member National Societies (NSs). The overall aim of IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by NSs with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services.
IFRC has five regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Europe, and the Americas. IFRC also has country cluster delegations and country delegations throughout the world. Together, the Geneva Headquarters and the field structure (regional, cluster and country) comprise the IFRC Secretariat.
IFRC has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment and other forms of harassment, abuse of authority, discrimination, and lack of integrity (including but not limited to financial misconduct). IFRC also adheres to strict child safeguarding principles.
Job Purpose
Information Management intern role is to support the IM team in the IFRC MENA Regional Delegation with development, maintenance and update of information management products. The IM intern will be working closely the IM team to support National Societies to collect, analyse and create layouts to support data collection and analysis at both regional- and country-levels.
The Information Management intern will help the Regional IM team to maintain critical databases that facilitate data collection and mapping from National Societies and to follow up on other information layouts that require updates with a defined frequency.
The job responsibilities include close collaboration with IM focal points within the MENA region, with different IFRC staff members, and more broadly, with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement members to:
- Support the IM pillar in data collection and analysis for the emergency operations as well as different projects in the region.
- Design mobile data collection surveys, questionnaires and help the regional IM with the analysis.
- Support National Societies on IM tools and practices for developing and managing their products.
- Collaborate with regional IM team in capacity building activities to Movement members in the MENA Region (NS/IFRC).
- Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the regional IM to ensure an efficient data collection and mapping system aligned with IFRC and National Society needs that allows analysis and presentation of information.
- Support the regional IM to develop information management products geographic information and spatial analysis products and visuals (preferably using Excel, GIS, PowerBI, Adobe Illustrator or other tools) to all those who require them in a timely and useful visual format.
- Help the regional IM to establish clear information flows and explain them to whoever needs to make use of it, both as users and managers.
- Support the regional IM in data cleaning, normalization and provide graphical analysis where needed.

- Help the regional IM to create infographics, dashboards, designed layouts, and other data visualisation products filling needs and requirements.
- Support the regional IM to provide technical assistance in information management to National Societies staff and volunteers, based on NS strategies, priorities and needs to strengthen NSs Information management systems, structures, and capacity.
- Any other reasonable tasks as stipulated by the line manager.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree relevant to the position - Required.
- Master's degree relevant to the position - Preferred
Experience
- 2+ year(s) experience with graphic design and data visualisation with the ability to translate complex digital information into clear and attractive graphic representations - Preferred.
- 1+ year(s) experience with GIS tools and ability to produce maps to visualise geographic information and spatial analysis - Preferred.
- 1+ year experience with mobile data collection tools (Kobo and ODK) - Required.
- Strong background in data and information management and informatics - Preferred.
- Strong computer literacy skills with advanced skills in MS Excel - Required.
- Experience within the humanitarian field, preferred on disaster response and project management - Preferred.
- 1 (+) years of experience within the RCRC Movement - Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential, with the ability to craft an analytical narrative from data findings - Required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy in order to manage relationships with many stakeholders and in a complex situational environment - Preferred.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize, order, process and prioritize large amounts of information - Preferred.
- Strong attention to detail in both listening and visualisation design - Required.
- Ability to take initiative to create new processes from scratch and act to fill identified gaps - Required.
- Strong knowledge of data visualization (Tableau, Power BI, GIS tools) - Preferred.
- Skills in database management, web design and programming - Preferred.
- Good domain of information technology is an advantage - Preferred
- Fluently spoken and written Arabic - Required.
- Fluently spoken and written English - Required.
- Good command of another IFRC official language (i.e., French) - Preferred.
